: Weight saving for FCS

Guys - I think I've gone a bit too far with the weight saving for FCS:

I have had to put the seats back though:

Ross - these are for you to show you the whole centre console does come out. If I can find one with an arm rest, I'm having it, and having it re-trimmed in scotech!

The real reason for these photos is that I had a small amount of water ingress from that flood in the carpark the other week. I pulled the carpet back to get air in it and dry it. As the carpet was pulled back and creased, and I thought there was a risk of stagnent water smell, so I won the Mark Fish piece of carpet to replace it.

When I came to fit the new carpet today (as well as putting new rear speakers in, re-laying all the navi wires and putting my live wire through the bulkhead) I found that the sound insulation on the floor was acting like a sponge and was still damp. So, I ripped it all out, put the seats back and am now on the hunt for some new sponge.... Already been back in touch with Tim Fish, hopefully I'll not have to pay stealer prices!

So - FCS for me is going to be poor, back of the stand. Virtually no interior, and no where near enough prep time on the bodywork..... There's always next year!

take it for a spin with no interior, just the drivers seat obviously;)

took a saab 9-3 sport out once with no interior just the seat and it felt so light :)

It currently has no rear bench, no carpet, no centre console, no floor insulation, no glovebox, just the two front seats.. It'll be like that until I get some new sponge. I'm not having the old stuff in, it's been damp for so long, it'll smell like an OAP's caravan if I leave it!

The drive to work tomorrow could be fun, and hopefully noisier!

Mate - I wish I could! If I'd not been DIY mad, there would be one, and also would have sorted replacement sponge by now.

I did my live through the bulkhead EXACTLY the same as yours too, thought I could do it with the battery tray still in now I know how. Nope. In fact I was quicker with mine, but I reckon I did a better job on yours!

As previously mentioned, you're braver than me :) I would be terrified in bodging it up good and proper. But Andy B has given me an idea as I need to take some stuff up to my folks prior to FCS so I may try removing the rear seats :)

It's actually really simple. What doesn't pull out/unclip has a bolt in it! Good news this morning, Tim Fish has the sponge and can dispatch! Should hopefully be fully re-built for FCS, but bad news is that I won't have enough time to clean the outside as well as I want...

If it's not raining on Sunday you can always use a bit or my Waterless car wash.

Cheers mate :) I'm hoping the sponge will be with me tomorrow and re-fitting can happen tomorrow, otherwise I might need to!

mate 10 out of 10 for doing all that mate!

Just think what it would have cost for a dealer to do all that for you! :D

No worries, I'll be easy enough to find. I'm the guy that will be wandering around clueless and not knowing anyone :p

Typical sparky, you just throw them away!!!!

No left-overs :D There are four loose in the cellar for the central bit of plastics, and 5-6 left for the glove box. The rest clips and pushes in!

Adam - I was having serious questions last night. Should I have gone through the insurer, got them to claim off my company and get them to do it. My answer was no. The insurer would have booked it into a garage, the garage would have opened the doors, dried it a bit and left it. I can't have that. Knowing I've done what I've done means it's totally clean, totally dry, and the replacement parts have done so few miles they're as good as new. All for the grand sum of £35+my time and scarred knuckles!

I managed to split the rear trim changing the rear speakers though.. Good job Tim Fish has a couple of them spare too!!

OK, got the replacement sponge on Friday morning, fitted it all Friday eve. It's from an R26. It looks the same, but seems to go a bit faster?

Anyway - all back and sorted, just like new:

Imagine how p!ssed off I was this morning to see this though - someone obviously didn't like my seats being out:

Oh no!

Thats well sad mate considering the time and effort you put in for the interior!

I would have done my nut!

Any idea who done it?
