: R26 cancelled, non-cup Lux worth a go?

Hey all,

as I've cancelled my R26 order from BMNC I'm on the hunt for something else. Have found a pretty good deal on an 07 non-cup LUX (well I think it's non-cup as the wheels and mirrors are not anthracite).

How do these drive? I'm guessing the ride is softer but are they still reasonably well-sorted to hussle along the back-roads if the mood takes me?

cheers

-Ant

Try and get a test drive mate, we all have different opinions and experiences!

I couldnt cover the extra 2k it was going to cost to actually get my car :( see "BuyMyNewCar aaaaaargh" in the BMNC forum!

a test drive is difficult as there aren't any nearby, but I should try really. just wondering if there was any fairly common opinions on the matter.

The standard chassis is very good anyway, having driven both on the track where you can only exploit the difference between the two. 95% of the time you will be more than happy with the non-cup chassis, and you can always get the wheels and wing mirrors resprayed.

interesting... i was hoping to maybe go on the odd track-day. I'm not at all worried about being the fastest one there. How much would the ESP ruin the fun? (bearing in mind I'm in no way an experience track driver) As I understand if you switch it off it'll re-enable itself above 30 in the 225.

alternatively for similar money I could probably get a 1-year old F1. would it be worth loosing a year of warranty for I wonder?

if you saving a few pound getting a second hand lux over the R26 then i would have said keep the R26 as it to me is a better car, that isMO.

I'd never been on one before either, but was great getting 2 hours one-to-one tuition in their R26, R27 and dci175. I had about 2 hours on my own as well, and you'd be very surprised how much progress you can make in day, especially when adopting their braking techniques (use it all the time know).

To be honest can't say that I noticed the light flashing at me very much, only perhaps coming out of the slower corners in third, but that was my fault for feeding in the power before the car was balanced. I know the guys in their 182's & 197's switched their's off as it was constantly intruding.

Hey Al225, cheers for putting my mind at ease! I'll certainly be getting myself along to an RS trackday once I've got everything sorted :)

If it was only a few pounds difference I'd certianly go for the R26, but it'd be at least £2000 more everywhere I've seen and that's a stretch I can't really make... and I need a car sooner rather than later :(

Still I'm pretty sure a 225 lux will be more than quick enough for a few years. Also it's less than half as expensive to insure!!

Drop it on a set of Eibachs mate and it'll transform the car - I know.

Got a set if you're interested, had 'em on my last 225, only used for 8k miles.

PM me if you need any info'.

how do they affect the insurance? I'm guessing Admiral would run away if I mentioned it but I guess the green light guys might be interested!

I've had no trouble with Admiral and mods on mine or the wife's car, only a few quid for a 35mm drop.

that's great news :) certainly makes the Eibachs a fairly decent sounding idea. They're basically the springs that go into the cup aren't they?

Did you try them on a remap?

That's great to hear :)

I was also wondering if DuncX had declared a remap to Admiral?

BTW thanks for all this feedback guys :shiny[1]:

No not a remap, only just got the R26.
The mods were on my old Megane Coupe and my wife's Clio.

ah, right. gotcha. good news that they'll at least take some mods. I'd certainly like to try the car as is for a wee while first before making any changes tho!
