Mines out of warrenty unfortunatly.

Just had a phone call from a dealer thru parts gateway who said they can send me a new turbo out tommorow £420 and gave me the turbo details so guna ring round aload of places see what the crack is, if thats cheap. the guy was a renault specialist aswell, asked him about larger turbos, tunning the engine and he said the 1.9dci 120bhp engine is kack and under a lota strain at 120bhp and said that he wouldnt tune it, apparently the only diesels worth tunning are vw seat(which are a vw) and audi. good to know, lol.

Just spoke to renault, the bearings in the turbo had gone, theres oil leaked into the intercooler and exhast and some seals and stuff need replacing. they quoted me 1350ish to fix with turbo priced at 580+vat, so i told them how much ide seen one for and they said they'd do it for 1150. thats for a new turbo, intercooler, etc.

cant be bothered with the hasstle so just told them to do it, should have it back for tommorrow afternoon.

58K apparently it a common problem with laguna megane 1.9 turbos, there $h1t. when they get to around 60-80k there likely to go according to a turbo specialist place.

and the engines are a bit ropey to start with under a bit to much pressure running standard boost, was asking about putting bigger turbos etc on, the guy steared me well clear just said the engines are p1$$ weak bottom end being $h1te.

the guy was a renault specialist aswell, asked him about larger turbos, tunning the engine and he said the 1.9dci 120bhp engine is kack and under a lota strain at 120bhp

Well he aint much of a specialist if that's what he thinks, he's talking complete cack.

The 120bhp 1.9 is easily good for 150bhp even with just a tuning box.

He wasnt saying that you couldnt get 150bhp out of it, he rekoned i could of seen a good bit more with what i was talking to him about, but the engines are **** weak and unreliable at that sort of power and not very reliable, and when i do a good few miles a year, would be a bit unpractical.

best person to speak to is paul from RS-tuning. might be worth getting his input?

Not much of a specialist then was he! A lot of the bits in that lump are the same or very similar to the 225 bottom end. Which goes over 300bhp quite happily.

Cheers

i hope i don't regret saying this (hope I don't curse myself now! lol), but I've had my 120 DCI remapped by RS Tuning (about December 06) to about 150bhp (not been on RR so this is a guess) and I do 25k miles a year, and not had any problems with the turbo, still goes well and she's done 73k now!

Bloody hell mate, the same thing happened to mine. Although mine was in warranty by another couple of months !!! Thank god it went when it did.

Renault said that it looked like starvation of oil. Due to it being serviced every 18K. It had only done about 32K miles. So was due a service at 36k.
