......Thinking of getting a megane 225 would like to have the keyless enter etc etc options as well. But I not sure if I should get this car. So need you help guys.

I'll be 24 in two weeks. I've got a quote from the insurances and they've quoted me £732 fully comp, and thats with 4 years no claims bonus.

If i get the car I will need to get a load from the bank. Which isn't a problem.

But need guidance from you guys.

Whats servicing like cost/parts?
what should I stay away from?
etc etc..

Please help me join the family.

as a note with Admiral the insurance on an '07 Lux is insanely cheap... not for earlier years though for some reason.

I reckon Admiral may be getting themselves mixed up. The diesel Lux is only group 12 or 13, can't remember which. I would be willing to bet they have cocked up and banded all 'Lux' models as group 12 on their system....

what the best way to find out what insurance group a car is

I find Parkers pretty accurate for ins groups.

I'm wondering if they could state it's my fault and not pay out. I have an insurance document at home stating the car with my registration number and a Megane RenaultSport Lux is insured.... Nothing anywhere stating fuel type or even insurance group etc.

(sorry for the semi-hijacked thread)

To cover yourself It might be worth getting them to send you something in writing confirming their understanding of which model your car is. Trouble is you may end up having to pay more if they have made a mistake and decide to hike up your premium.

The other side of the argument is that they have your reg number and the description of your car as a Megane RenaultSport Lux could also be considered correct, they would have to battle to prove otherwise.

When I ordered mine HSBC (dealer not insurance) didnt have a 225 Lux on the list just a 225, when I mentioned lux all they had was 'Megane RenaultSport Lux', the only thing that gave it away as the diesel was the engine size (1995cc instead of 1998cc). I ordered the plain '225' and they then confirmed with the dealer that this was now also called 'Lux'.

just phoned and had to change the car, as you said chrisfez the engine size on the insured car was 1995 not 1998, that cost me a tidy £150 :(

Not too happy, but thanks for the save on that one!

Think I'll be writing Admiral a rather strongly worded letter....

back to the original topic though, just do it JimmyJ!! I love my 225 to pieces, think the insurance for me is about £470 now fully comp with the girlfriend on it.

TheOneTrueAnt, no problem. glad I posted this thread as if i didnt you'll still be insured on a didnt model car. Are there any guides on servicing time and things to look out for when buying a 225??

there's a checklist somewhere but that's mostly aimed at people taking delivery of a brand new one. Would you be looking to get a car that's still under warranty?

I'm sure I remember reading somewhere that servicing comes in at about the £220 mark, not 100% sure on that though as I've got another 5000 miles / 7 months to go til I worry about it!

New myself but from experience so far I'd say

Check out the www.renaultsport.co.uk forums if you don't already. Also try http://www.meganeownersclub.co.uk/ for general Meg info.

Dealers tend to hang around a bit on renaultssport as well.

Model depends on how much you want to spend, if secondhand & you want all the toys look at a 225 full fat with cup pack on top maybe, if you are going for new it would have to be R26 with Lux pack...

Back on post

Servicing costs £200-£300 without cost of replacing parts
Parts ££££ stupid money for everything but good deals to be had if you find parts on ebay/forums when owners change for non-renault parts (exhausts & alloys)

Whole range of dealers from good to completely usesless - where are you in the country, people local on this site will give you an idea.

Car cost depends on if you are going for new or not. For new online prices still seem to be better than dealerships. Some good 2nd hand deals on 225 as 230 not been out long. Defo test drive before you buy, some people finf the ff without cup a bit to vague & others find the lsd a bit too firm.

I would not buy anything out of warrantee as when they go wrong they can cost a lot to put right.

Diesel sport much cheaper to insure, petrol better acceleration

Do buy one though, you won't regret it. Best hot hatch out there
