think you buy a little gadget to termine which one is faulty but tbh cant see why they need replacing again only after a year.

they shouldnt go every year mate . get the battery checked out and the starter motor as the starter when cold can be very tight causing slow/non start situation

chris g
01-10-2007, 13:17:49
never had a non start or a slow start though!! she fires up rite away. i think it is only one glow plug. it was number 2 last year and renault replaced it not all of them though. ur rite it shouldnt be like this every time it gets cold.

Danny

the car starts just like any other day but on the dash the service light stays on ( 8500 to next service) and on the center of the dash it says check injection!!! there is no problem with the cars injection as it runs fine. When the car is warm and u start it everything is fine cause it doesnt need the help of the glow plugs.

very strange mate not sure what that could be tbh. think it will need a visit to renault. also hard to say without looking at it

chris g

true!! looks like my only option. i just grudge paying the money every year if im going to have the same problem.

shouldn't have any probs till 6-8 years or about 80K minimum from new :-O

If car runs fine, prob. more likely a very minor electrical gremlin (dry connection)

And they would NOT be reno parts - Bosch, Lucas or similar branded part - as long as 'correct' plug (from chassis/engine no.) could match anywhere

Prob. £30 your standard car parts counter - the ones that deliver to the trade (forget aftermarket like Halfords)

im betting its the number 2 glow plug again. there maybe a gremlin in there. if i take i back to renault then i will let them know even at that they will have it on there system. just hope its not serious.

Dude it will be a glow plug that is all that gos on the 1.9 get a test ligh and clip it on the + yes the + side of the battry then pull the leads of the glow plugs and tuch the test light to the tip of the glow plugs the one that dont light up ya test light is the faulty one.

I paid £40 to have all 4 changed like, got a renault garage to plug it into the machine and determine the prob for nowt too, only took them like 2mins, so how the f*** they charge £60 is beyond me.
Not had no probs since like, but saying that the cold weather is yet to come.

chris g

yeah mate £60 pound just to test them to see wot ones causeing the bother. thats at a renault dealers though.

05-10-2007, 09:15:25
Well i was meaning you could get them all changed for less than what you'd pay for renault to tell you which ones causing the prob, then you've got 4 new ones.

chris g
05-10-2007, 09:16:27
yeah think im just going to do that. need to do it soon before i start getting bother. cheers!!!!

Danny

chris g
05-10-2007, 22:40:49

I just got my car back today from renault after the dynostic's test. Glow plugs 3 and 4 were out. He said to me on the phone that iv already had glow plug 2 done here and the febuary before i got the car glow plug 1 had been replaced. Thankgod thats fixed now anyway. Should have no more glow plug problems now. (hopefully)

is there any benefit to changing them early - as i know with sparks they start deteriorating after 8k - or is it a case of when they fail then change em ??

chris g
08-11-2007, 10:48:50
my glow plugs should have lasted a lot longer than they did. Theres no benifit in changing them early as all they do is help start ur engine when its cold. My car was running with only 2 glow plugs working and there was no performance change.

Yep, failed glow plugs should only effect the cold starting. If you don't get the check injection/service light when you restart the engine after driving a few miles then you can be fairly sure it is one or more glow plugs. if you have a multimeter then you can check which glow plug(s) has failed by comparing the resistance.
