: Subaru GB270
Jonboy 28-09-2007, 12:06:43 Anyone driven one of these? Seems very reasonably priced for the performance. Only a few k more than the RRP R26. Do you think they will bring out a Colin McRae special edition?
**can someone move to the General or Other Makes section...wasnt paying attention***
meggerman 28-09-2007, 14:17:01 motorpoint used to do the wrx for £14995 ! a few mods and your well sorted.
Jonboy 28-09-2007, 15:15:30 would you choose one over an R26?
mike_d225 28-09-2007, 15:42:15 Nope
meggerman 28-09-2007, 16:12:55 dunno actually.
is it all a wee bit too much ?
often people think black and white either get a eco mile muncher or a thirsty drinker
what i and i expect other meganesport owners too have done is try push the boundries of having a sports car with the least day-to-day compromises possible.
ins grp 17,
28-32mpg,
£190 road tax a year
£56 per month insurance
£160 PCM payments
is better than say
ins grp 20,
15-22mpg,
£300 road tax per year
£80 per month insurance
£??? PCM probably £250-300
the 172 was just about perfect 1grp lower, 38mpg, cheaper to insure, and cheaper tyres. but now with the remapped meg i have 100 more BHP, 120lbft more torque, 6speed, 155+ mph, 0-60 in 6 flat perhaps under in dry and only suffer a 8mpg penalty and 1 ins group higher.
+ got mine cheap through bmnc which was part of the whole thing with renaultsports you could get them cheap online or via someone like motorpoint, now its changed a bit id want a bit more for the list price if i had to pay it.
but the answer is no on a cost and living level which is 100% the most important the scoob is over kill, if i want 4wd that bad there are cheaper alternatives.
the meg does 80% of what a 'real' sports car can do, and with a remap its got to be 95%
besides its long in the tooth and doesnt offer the same safety design and systems the meg does.
minnnt 29-09-2007, 06:10:53 isn't the megane £205 a year tax?
Naith 29-09-2007, 09:21:24 yeh

Good post...Agree totally
chriswood_7 29-09-2007, 14:28:05 Yeah I agree with that too,
Id prefer an R26 over a Subaru, I think the running costs are ridiculous. Youd either have to be extremely rich or so much of an enthusiast that you didnt mind spending every single penny on your car and your petrol. I spend on average £110 a month on fuel (mixture of pleasure and commuting), obviously if I go somewhere further away it costs more, but the Subaru would be almost double in petrol for me!
In agreement with meggermans post, the Megane is practical and has top safety ratings. Thats what sold it for me (although mines a 225 cup not an R26)

mines a 225cup also.
i have to do a fair few miles to work so im spending £40-£60 a week on fuel @ the moment still getting 28mpg though. i couldnt spend anymore than that the scoob would easily cost me £90 a week !
sh33n 01-10-2007, 16:33:10 Looks very nice if you ask me, and properly cheaper to run than an STI with most of the performance of one.
Wouldn't buy one myself for most of the reasons already stated.
PS. A Megane is not a sports car, neither is a Subaru ;)
shinyautos.com 01-10-2007, 16:43:46 nor is a mr2!! Crikey someone in my family has got a mr2 convertable new type ones, crikey isn't it just a small status car?
ie hair dresser, it's hardly a sports car, which he soon found out when i said come on then fancy a play with a family car, the megane lol
Danny 01-10-2007, 21:45:54 anyone seen the wrx sti in auto express ? i think it looks the nuts :)
