You just have to send off the certificate that you have to your local DVLA office, it will show that you have paid the retension fee and also the mark of the reg. You can get it sorted the same day if you take it to your local office at no extra cost. If you choose to do it by post then it will take around a week for your new tax disc to come through, then they will send you another certificate at the same time for you to get your plates made up if you aint already. Thats all really its quite simple and quick.

Did mine last week. Take the retention certificate and the V5 logbook to your local DVLA Office. They will issue you with a new tax disc on the spot and give you a certificate that allows you to get the new plates made up.They also give you an envelope to post the old tax disc back to them. The Local Office then send the information to Swansea who process the change and send you out the new V5 within 4 weeks normally. All in all takes about 10mins and is pretty painless.
