Just thought I'd pop up another mod I did with my runabout.
I've got a £70 JVC headunit and 4" JBLs but now I've got a new back box I keep having to turn it up more and its not doing the standard speakers any good.
So off I went to Motorworld and bought one of their 10" sub packages. Unbranded cheapness but a 10" sub, box, amp and wiring kit for £80 can't be bad.

Well I've found that House of Pain does now sounds funkier haha.
I'm gonna leave just the single 10", means I've got some space for bags and stuff then!!
In my Megane is a different story -

I see you have a power cap in there. Not being that clued up on them, does it make any noticeable difference to anything?

So it is :) Anyone know the answer to my question? Or is a fire extinquisher more use than a power cap? lol

a power cap is used when building an install with high current draw,so big amps or multi amp use over a period of time at high volume kill a battery
a power cap will prolong the battery life as it stores power and discarges it very quickly so when you need high power the power is there (think of it as a bank storing energy until you need it)
it eliminates your headlight dulling when you have the audio on loud so headlights wont dim in time to the music

A powercap is the very last thing you put on any ICE install, they only hold power for a split second, ive known people running 4 JL 12s and an amp for each off a standard battery and been fine, powercaps are a complete waste of money imo

Speak to any audio company that has been established for a good few years on the competition side of things and they will tell you the same thing mate, your always best fitting a split relay system and having a seperate battery to run everything off, and then if you need it then get a powercap but if anybody tells you that you need a powercap for a single sub they are lying! headlights dipping when bass drops will only last one drop at not dipping as the cap will need to recharge where as a seperate battery on a split relay system you won't notice it at all and then renault can say its voided the warranty, also a bigger alternator is always a good thing to go with, like the alternator off a diesel equivalent off your car as they are bigger, as remember most power comes from that, once the engine is running, stored power in the battery is only there for a back-up, powercaps were a big thing when they first came out but you barely see them now as overtime people realised they wern't that good, a bit like what happened to induction kits, the theory is there but practically, they just don't work, which is a big shame :(

its a fire extinguisher
Hahaha I'm glad someone else pointed that out.
The fire extiguisher was bolted to the board the amp is on way back when it was in my 1.2 Clio, but I though I might as well leave it on.
As for power caps, I'm not entirely convinced by them either.
I'm running that 1200w amp as well as the active sub which is also a peak of 1200w straigh off the battery. Never noticed any problems with it.
I reckon they are partly for show as much as anything. Only time I've ever noticed any issues was in my first car. A 1993 Clio 1.2 and when you were stationary and had the bass up the lights used to dim with the bass!!! lol
In my old 172 it was never necessary and the Megane is running a lot more power but with no dip in performance.
