: cup chassis only
robjnr 26-11-2007, 20:29:54 just put a deposit on a 55 plate, i wanted one with the cup pack so the guy at the dealer said he found one for me,
went and seen it today and it hasn't got the cup pack but just the chassis i.e not cup wheels or brakes but just the chassis,
i do believe him as he showed me a leaflet saying that you can just have the option the cup chassis,
can anyone confirm this?
mike_d225 26-11-2007, 20:38:24 Think he may be spinning you a yarn, to my knowledge they did not put the cup chassis on without the brakes and wheels. It came as a package, you could buy a cup or lux with cup pack.
Never trust a dealer!!!!
robjnr 26-11-2007, 20:50:10 it said in the option book,
cup chassis,
then another option was the cup pack which came with wheels breaks etc
Matty 26-11-2007, 21:12:26 Cup Chassis has the wheels and the rest of the Kit
think it came with all of this Cup Pack was something for the Full Fat that had all these featuers, the dealers are often full of crap

Matty is spot on. Ive got the brochure in front of me.
robjnr 26-11-2007, 22:32:40 Matty is spot on. Ive got the brochure in front of me.
hm.. this has got me worried now, i knew it was a bit odd
so isn't there any chance that it could have just the chassis and thats it? or does it HAVE to have the brakes, wheels etc..
it's a 55 2006 model so could it just be an extra option on this?
DEEJAY 225 RS 26-11-2007, 22:42:37 walk away from the salesman,he is trying to sell you a car thats not what it is,and hes lying to make a sale,as atm the car trade is dead and he needs to make his bonus,as matty said if it doesnt have all them then it does not have the cup chassis/pack!!
so isn't there any chance that it could have just the chassis and thats it?NO
or does it HAVE to have the brakes, wheels etc.. YES

i've put a deposit down already which was stupid of me,
how hard is it to get it up to the cup spec? i.e prices and stuff?

Its not the end of it mate,go back and say to them that you have been miss sold a car and that under the sales and good act the vehicle has been misdescribed and you are entitled to your money back, unless they find a vehicle to the specification that you require
9 times out of ten they will find you a car rather than f***ing you off with your money, this is your chioce but imo id walk away with my money
as far as bringing the car upto cup spec then id say quite a bit
Nate187 26-11-2007, 23:10:17 I'd try and get your deposit back mate, dont be bullied into buying a car if you wont be happy with it. Explain you've done your research on the meganesport club site and there is no such thing as just a cup chasis without the extras. Tell him he was wrong what he told you about the car and should give you your money back.
robjnr 26-11-2007, 23:11:40 ok cheers guys,
redR26 27-11-2007, 05:24:05 To be honist mate you should stop dealing with him altogether due to the lack of trust he has shown you from the start, he clearly dont know what he is on about so you should be able to demand your money back unless he produces to you the correct spec of that car but I believe that will be very doubtful giving what you have explained about the car. I recon its just a normal 225, Was it from a Reno dealer.
donny_dog 27-11-2007, 09:08:05 Just go back to him and say you researched it. You can't just get the Cup chassis and on that basis, you do not want the car. Did you get any paperwork, describing the ins and outs of the deposit?
Matty 27-11-2007, 09:16:13 At last i got something right lol.
The dealers will try and sell you something you dont want, check out piston heads or ask on here and someone will find a better car
DEEJAY 225 RS 27-11-2007, 17:46:13 heres another misleading ad

Jon Seal 27-11-2007, 19:15:53 I would walk away, far away!
JOHN-MEGANE 28-11-2007, 16:23:16 you caN EXPLAIN TO THE DEALERSHIP THAT YOU ONLY WANTED THE VEHICLE WITH CUP PACK THE SALE PERSON IS AT FOUGHT IF THEY STILL WANT THE SALE THEY HAVE TO RECTIFY IT WITH:-
Cup Chassis
18" Lightweight Anthracite Alloy Wheels
Anthracite coloured door mirror housings
Dunlop Sport Maxx tyres 235/40 R18 (ilo 225/40 R18)
Brembo Brake Calipers

robjnr 28-11-2007, 16:53:01 they are adamant that it has got the chassis, all there technicians say it has got the cup chassis, the owner before is the md and she says it has, the car had loads of feel to it so makes me think that it has,
in the option book it says
(2006 model) cup chassis,
or cup pack either is an option
Sounds a bit odd. If you are not 100% happy with the car and its spec then walk away. There are plently of other cars out there.
Naith 28-11-2007, 17:07:23 good call bex, cup or not, it seems abit 'off'
robjnr 28-11-2007, 17:08:54 well i was happy with it when i drove it so thats all that matters ay,
can you buy uprated springs? surely there not available for the cup as its already 22% stiffer at front and 77% stiffer at the back
eibach do springs which 22% stiffer but is this based on the cup?
jetski 28-11-2007, 17:12:18 Ask them what their cup chassis has and then show them this website, with what has been listed and what everyone else knows to be the cup chassis and what it consists of. It was an £500 optional extra so without the wheels and uprated brakes it's not really worth a toss mate.
Naith 28-11-2007, 17:14:46 if ur happy then the convo's a no brainer really innit. just feel that they are spinning you some yarn n its not nice to be lied to
the cup has essentially the same set up as a eibach cladded 225 (with different damper settings mind)
only minor diff is the drilled brakes, wheels, and brake master cyl
help if u got some piks of it too :)

should be picking her up tommorrow so will get some pics up asap,
i think he has seen this site, ill try and get the option book and scan it so you can see what says,
i will be modding the suspension any way and pos brake upgrade, how much are the cup wheels going for?
BlackRat250 28-11-2007, 17:44:23 Ive just caught onto this topic.
The car WILL NOT have cup chassis 100%. It is going to be a full fat by the sounds of it.
If it has the cup pack / chassis, it will have what has already been stated, wheels and brakes etc. By the shear lack of those is enough to prove its not got cup.
If you looked at it that it had the cup chassis, what would the point be without the brakes, wheels etc etc. It doesn't add up.
Like you said mate, if your happy with it, thats all that matters. The handling isn't bad on the Full fats, not half as good as the cups though.
Out of interest, where did you buy it from? Just so we can tell people to avoid them !!! Liars !!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
robjnr 28-11-2007, 18:08:29 i don't know, it does seem odd but so does what was writen in the option book,
i'm not gonna slag them off though because they have been very helpful to me, if it hasnt got a cup chassis then its more stuff to play around with i suppose,
it did seem a stiff ride tho and was suprised by the reaction of the steering wheel,
BlackRat250 28-11-2007, 18:17:08 Mate, trust me, it has not got cup chassis, no matter how stiff it feels. 99% of dealers do not have a clue about renaults, particularly the sports versions. This site proves it.
As far as the wording, read into it what you like. If you look in a lot of brochures there are quite a few inaccuracies. Ive been to the Renault sport Factory in Dieppe and watched them being made and funnily enough, we asked quite a few questions about versions. Wonder how many dealers can boast that.
Although they've been helpful they have lied, no two ways about it, either that or they have not got a clue. Im probably edging on the latter.
As you say, it is more stuff to play around with, although it is an expense you wouldn't have had to have spent if it had cup chassis.
As i said before, if your happy with it, then thats all that matters, i hope you enjoy it.
As for slagging them off, if you feel that it is appropriate for a Renault Dealer to either lie or not be educated in what they are selling and fraud more people, then refrain from identifying who they are. Im sure if they come on here, they know who they are anyway. Keep reading this site, you might learn something dealer !!!
Jimbo 28-11-2007, 18:21:57 pay your subs then PM me the reg plate/VIN number. ill try to HPI it tomorrow and get some more clarity on this.
robjnr 28-11-2007, 18:23:48 it is just my local renault dealer in bristol,
fair enough it probably hasn't got the cup chassis, ill just appriciate the differece when changing stuff (i.e suspension, brakes, wheels etc..),
which will make it more fun,
Jimbo 28-11-2007, 18:24:56 fair enough. the cup chassis might have been a waste then of you;re planning to uprate the suspension any how.
BlackRat250 28-11-2007, 18:25:52 It will mate. Just bare in mind there are limited places for buying after market bits for the meganes from, so they are quite expensive.
Don't mean to go at you, its just annoying that there are delaers out there selling these cars when they know nothing about them. People come on here expecting things about there cars and are dissappointed.
DEEJAY 225 RS 28-11-2007, 19:03:11 should be picking her up tommorrow so will get some pics up asap,
i think he has seen this site, ill try and get the option book and scan it so you can see what says,

WHY?
you want a cup and your not getting one, trust us we all know what we are talking about, your going to buy a car then upgrade it from a ff to a ff cup,are you mad??
on top of the price of the car it will cost you a fortune to upgrade
rant over but imo id of got my money back and walked, but like blackrat said,if your happy with it then thats all that matters,
jetski 28-11-2007, 19:14:31 robjnr I think everyone on here's trying to help you from getting ripped off mate, One wheel alone is £100 x that by four, plus 4 tyres then the other bits. The cup chassis was well worth the £500 as an optional extra but to try and substitute that, as already been said will cost you a fortune which you will never get back.
robjnr 28-11-2007, 19:36:12 i appriciate all your comments,
but that is one thing i love about having a car is upgrading bits on it, can't beat the smile you get on your face when you first go out in it with a fresh new mod,
i don't think they were lieng to me just think they know fook all about the car,
but hey will be intresting to see what it is with all this comocition
jimbo you got msn? ill email it to you

Mate, you'll struggle to upgrade the bits without spending a fortune. It sounds like you want a cup, but yet you're buying a full fat. Just tell them honestly your thoughts, what was said and your dissapointment at the cost it would be to upgrade the bits later (may result in further discount? or even you walking away).
Lying and 'not knowning' a product they are selling, advertising and endorsing is not good either way.
Being nice to you, should be a given, - you're spending big money, and you deserve that courtesy as standard.
I hope you enjoy your car either way, whether it is this one, or another. Even if you intend to take the car, please do highlight the inaccuracy of the sales man. It may save others from a similar fate, who do not find this website.
Good luck and enjoy :)
mike_d225 29-11-2007, 10:44:56 i appriciate all your comments,

Most importantly Rob, if your happy with the car buy it.
But IMO you need to at least educate the dealer and request a discount for the lack of Cup pack. If they are selling it as a cupped car they will be adding to the purchase price, therefore get some discount and put it towards your first mods.
Liftnub 10-12-2007, 22:06:29 Hi Rob,
Was this City Motors in Bristol per chance?
BlackRat250 11-12-2007, 10:15:50 oo, liftnub, do go on ? They didn't try you did they?
Thomas 11-12-2007, 10:58:55 Dealer ignorance I think this boils down to.
Liftnub 12-12-2007, 18:47:56 oo, liftnub, do go on ? They didn't try you did they?
Fortunately no, theyre just a proper bunch of cowboys. They did try and force me to accept delivery of a damaged 225 using that often successful technique known as 'bully and abuse the customer'. I told them where to stick their car and ordered another one elsewhere. It really wouldnt surprise me if it was them as they dont know their arse from their elbow.

yes mate it was them,
ive got a few problems with it now and they don't want to know any thing, they've got their commision so don't give 2 sh*ts now,
mike_d225 13-12-2007, 08:01:35 I don't want to be the one that says it........
mike_d225 13-12-2007, 08:04:26 Anything we can help with though Rob give us a shout, pretty sure we will have hit most problems so far.
robjnr 13-12-2007, 17:37:57 cheers mike ;)
i just went down there and saw the bloke first hand, bloody useless trying to get hold of people over the phone :2guns:
should be ringing me tonight to confirm a day to get it in there garage,
mike_d225 13-12-2007, 17:43:20 I always find it best to go down in person, to easy for them to fob you off on the phone.
Liftnub 14-12-2007, 15:59:53 Sorry to hear about the problems. When I was first looking for a 225 they showed me round the sales managers silver 225, that did have the cup pack on it, including wheels and brakes, but it was an 07 plate, so can't be the one they sold you.
Nate187 14-12-2007, 16:55:24 What problems have you got with it Rob?
robjnr 14-12-2007, 19:08:30 right....
I think the tracking is out becasue it pulls to the left when u let go of the steering wheel,
Steering wheel sits slightly off centre,
The front left hand tyre is bold all around the edge,
Fog light hasn't worked since i got it,
Front right hand side of the bumper is flapping,
Also there is a clicking sound when i turn the wheel on full lock or when i turn the wheel either way but this only happens sometimes,
BlackRat250 15-12-2007, 00:07:59 Crikey, sorry to hear your having problems. How old is it again ? All that should be covered under warranty.
robjnr 15-12-2007, 11:44:13 hopefully, it's a 2006 55 plate,
BlackRat250 16-12-2007, 12:28:12 Most of it will be covered under warranty then mate.
