First of all, hi all. some of you know my bro (renocfc).
Anyway, I'm just asking a quick question on behalf of my manager. She has the same car as our Liam (1.4 dynamique i think), and last week it didn't start. And it's still not working now. She's drove to work in it once (not sure how she got it started)
Anyway, it seems to be a bit hit and miss. Any ideas what the problem could be? Obviously I've told her to get the battery, alternator and starter motor all checked, but is this a common problem? Is there anything else that could be causing it?
Cheers,
Mat

i had this problem and it was coils - check them first as they the cheapest to replace i think (the diagnostic will pick that up)
then dephaser pulley or TDC sensor are other common faults with the 1.4s and 1.6s apparently!

does she start it and it stalls before even getting to tick over level? then acts as though its totally dead? if so then this is what i had and it was the coils.
the trick i used to get round this is to put your foot to the floor when pressing the start button - this is how i got it out of being 'dead' - then rev it a bit and it it shud tick over okay.

1.4 doesn't have a dephaser pulley as it is not a VVT system IIRC.
Sounds like it is most likely the coils to be honest.

Intermitent starting problem is most commenly the TDC sensor, coils are normally the cause of running problems!

my problem was coils (showed up on diagnostics) relaced it and the intermittent starting was cured!

I had a starting problem where the engine would cut out on starting and i would have to give it some revs for a few seconds then it was fine, serviced it and the starting problem seems ok, however i now have a flat spot at about 2000rpm whilst the car is cold, seems to stop when the car warms up. Anybody got any ideas?

Have now changed the TDC sensor and the coil packs £260 later and the damn thing is still playing up when starting, what next?

If i have the cambelt changed, does this include the dephaser pulley or is it completely seperate?
