: New mods for the GT ? (help)
Casey-R26 22-02-2008, 15:19:31 Since ive had it remaped by Paul ive been thinking what could be next. Possible mods i can think of are:
-KTR exhaust
-EIBACH'S
-MEGANE 2.0 16v TURBO UPRATED INTERCOOLER KIT
Exhaust im not sure wether to remove the back box and just fit a straight pipe or just whip the lot and and buy the above exhaust. I just want a bit more of a noise because as standard theres not much there if any! Nothing too loud just a bit deeper.
Eibachs's im not sure which to buy because as it says on the renault website
''The suspension has been specifically revised to gives porty handling without compromising comfort. The shock absorbers have specific settings, stiffer springs, anti roll bars with increased diameter, and the lower overall setting creates responsive and rigorous handling. However, the suspension allows enough wheel travelfor a comfortable ride around town or on the motorway. In order to match the new suspension, the ESP and the steering have been re-calibrated,further enhancing the driving experience.''
Now if i change to springs that would drop it another 30 mm would this effect the driving of the car ?? (help Icarus)
Intercooler im also not sure wether its worth changing this as i have no problems with the current one.
If you can think of anything else to help improve performance or handling please let me know or let me know what you think about the above . Or do i go for total stealth and get the Quaife diff and get paul to fit a bigger turbo and keep the GT instead of swapping it for a 225/230 next year ?
Cheers
Casey-R26 23-02-2008, 12:39:27 No ideas guys ?
DanMegane 23-02-2008, 12:51:37 In my experience of lowering cars, it only increases the amount of grip which people perseive as "handling" as it lowers the centre of gravity, nothing more.
Eibach are a good quality spring but to be honest they didnt send thousands of hours on CAD and road testing to get the suspension how they wanted it. They just find out the spring dimesions and load capacity etc, and stiffen it up by 25% and then shorten it by 30mm. The renault item will work much better with the car, although I think you might have the option of changing to R26 suspension, dont quote me on that tho. I'm sure Icarus will be along later to shame me.

Mike_GT205 23-02-2008, 15:02:42 Keep the standard stuff - it's not quite on a par with my 182 but it's certainly a very good handling motor (even with the derv up front) and still very comfortable.
DanMegane 23-02-2008, 16:47:54 With regards to the exhaust, from what I have heard there are only a couple on the market which will see a power increase, the rest are just for noise. If you just wanted th noise, the cheapest option is to have a garage (A+R or similar) change the back section and remove the box.
Also with the Intercooler, unless your running a bigger turbo then you wont see much of a gain over the standard item.
IMO I would go for the 225/230 as you will be able to get more power out of them. However, quickest GT in the UK has a nice ring to it. ;)
Hope this helps

Alain 23-02-2008, 17:59:29 this is just my personal opinion
-if the intercooler on the gt's the same as the standard r26,225 intercooler then i don't see the point on changing it.
-i have been thinking of getting the eibach spring but i'm in the same boat as you on that one.(don't think i will change them tbh)
-i didn't get the car on the rr before i changed my exhaust which i should of done really but you know the result that came with it.
so personally i would change the exhaust but up to you mate either way let us know.

Good luck chasing me
Casey-R26 23-02-2008, 18:51:12 Mike GT205 do you have the Laguna GT or Megane GT.
Mike_GT205 23-02-2008, 19:04:19 Megane - see Hello thread :)
Casey-R26 23-02-2008, 19:09:50 So youve seen 65 bhp increase and now upto 370 lb ft, dont you mean nm if its that much. Who done you remap as the itg wont give it any bhp along with the new intercooler so thats one big increase froma map. ?
Mike_GT205 23-02-2008, 19:43:32 Nope I mean lb/ft. ITG and intercooler does a lot when an off-the-shelf map hikes you to 195bhp and 330lb/ft... They're all designed to work hand-in-hand, whilst maintaining drivability. Next on the list is uprated injectors and turbo, but that's a 2009 project, as this year I'm shifting the 182 and buying a house! Lol.
Casey-R26 23-02-2008, 20:07:26 If so thats over 500nm which is the same as a 4.8 N/A Porsche Cayenne S. Can you post up some graphs mate to have a look at. Do you get any black smoke out of the back and it must spin like crazy.

Actually, it's around the same as the BMW Alpina D3... I've got no scanner at the moment but should have one some time soon - as for black smoke I've said in a couple of threads that it only makes a mess when it's been sat in traffic for a while then gets ragged.
Mike_GT205 23-02-2008, 21:04:35 Spinning isn't a problem typically if you drive it with respect - if you just jump on it for the hell of it then the ECU will step in but typical driving only sees the light on once or twice.
Casey-R26 23-02-2008, 21:07:47 well converted 370 lf bt to nm makes 501 and like i said the 4.8 N/A Porsche Cayenne S produces 501 nm so that was correct anyway.
Who done the remap for you then mate,? price ect ?
Mike_GT205 23-02-2008, 21:12:47 Remap was done by a friend who works for Derv Doctor, cost me a few favours in kind. Original map to 195bhp and 326lb/ft was done by Celtic Tuning - £350ish secures you this.
Casey-R26 23-02-2008, 21:15:36 So you had it rolling roaded by the derv doctor also, youll have to go to leeds RS Tuning one day so i can see what its like mate.
