: Integra Type R
anyone know the specs on these things
had a play with one at xmas, must have been an early to mid 90's car
I was behind one and egged him on a bit, and he booted it but couldn't shake me but i did backe off as i didnt want to go to silly speeds
was fun though!
Jacob 12-01-2006, 23:47:19 The old ones arent as fast as the DC5, Old ones are 1.8Vtec 190PS , 178NM, 0-60 in 6.2. Think new ones are similar but 220PS standard
asmith225 13-01-2006, 16:38:32 Theres an Accord Type-R that knocks around my area, had a few run ins and to be honest it seems surprisingly quick.
Wouldnt bother racing the Teg Type-R round the twisties though, unless you feel like getting your ass seriously kicked.
paul g 14-01-2006, 19:30:45 i seen a teg type r in my local shell garage tonight, black new shape white wheels , recaro seats ,import but absolutely stunning machine

I'd be too scared of driving over the top of it they are tiny!
like dinky toys
rs cabbie 14-01-2006, 20:34:12 a friend has got one they are quick but are prone for electrical faults everything is computerised on them more than the 225 8)
MattRS225 17-01-2006, 07:52:16 Mate of mine got a Teg and it's rapid, I haven't raced him for age's though but when i did there wasn't much in it at all and as for roundabout's the Meg's got no chance
There a video kicking around on one of the other site of the Teg V Clio V6 upto stupid speeds i'll try and find it
definately not alot in it, there was no chance of over taking (not that i would)
but i made a few mistakes and i feel head to head on a strip i would have had him, the meg took it in its stride
but i don't know the condition of his car etc, but like you say add a bend and i would be behind

hamish 22-11-2009, 23:05:01 DC2's aint impressive in a straight line tbh iv driven one and compaired it to my megane
they have amazing handling, maybe even better than the megane, but they lack torque so they aint as quick as a megane in a straight line.

caymanR26 22-11-2009, 23:27:57 cool - that made me laugh
Daz Fountain 22-11-2009, 23:39:02 lol that tickled me a bit
Jespin 23-11-2009, 23:03:52 Lets keep it up.... up... up
mccabee1983 23-11-2009, 23:56:55 My mate had a dc2 jdm 98 spec - the difference between a 96 spec and a 98 spec is very little nothing dramatic. A uk teg is different again honda enthusiasts will describe it as 'soft'. When I had my 182 the dc2 would pull away from me but nothing major, cornering wise they are very good but again depends on the confidence of the driver the dc2 can be quite numb until you push it to its limits. I d say an r26 is faster than a dc2 but wont be much in it, maybe a cars length.
snapper25 25-11-2009, 20:00:07 My mate raced my other mates teg in his 172 at crail drag strip a few times and he beat him every time!.
I thought they were about the same power as a civic type r.
Jespin 25-11-2009, 20:43:05 They're a bit less power than an EP3 CTR but weigh a bit less too. They should show a 172 a clean pair of heels if both standard, although there won't be a huge amount in it.
mccabee1983 26-11-2009, 10:26:40 I was in a Honda club and the power of the dc2s do vary, a few lads with uk dc2s where very slow when compared to my ep3, however, the jdm versions seemed to be as fast or faster than my ep3. The main thing to remember with dc2s are that they are quite old so power will depend upon maintenance and another point is that because they are jap the performance parts available are massive.
RvingtSix 26-11-2009, 11:05:09 I've owned a 98 Uk spec teg and currently own an R26. IMO the Teg corners flatter than the Meg and feels more stable under heavy braking. It's not all about pure speed in the teg, it's still the most exciting car I have ever driven. Especially de-catted and with a Blue Flame exhaust. 189BHP std, with LSD. If you read articles on how much attention to detail Honda put it to the teg it amazing. The DC5 is a bit more sedate as far as being a pure drivers car.
Teg has to be driven hard to get the most out of it but once you get past 6000rom it's fannytastic. Lacks grip on take off though because of 15" alloys..JDM version came with 16".
When I got the R26 I was a bit gutted tbh and lusted after my teg but after owning it for 3 years the r26 is a better all rounder. I reckon the Meg would do one in the twisties with the right driver....
RvingtSix 26-11-2009, 11:06:27 Oh, and the tegs are perfectly weighted 50/50 front and rear. The underside has ballast bars as well as in the boot. Aaarh you've me thinking of that VTEC roar now :D
RvingtSix 26-11-2009, 11:09:37 The only reasons a 172 would beat a teg are in a straight line:
1. Crap driver in teg
2. 172 has traction aids (I think)
I took mine to Elvington and was blown away by it's handling. It's grip on the handling course was ridiculous, not even a glimmer of the back end stepping out.
clarki 26-11-2009, 12:35:11 I really dont know what all the fuss about interga's is??!!
mccabee1983 26-11-2009, 13:13:09 172 cup has no traction aids at all; they where removed along with abs to make it as light as possible.
Never drove an r26r which is now stated as the best front driver ever, by magazines but the dc2 is fantastic. Go into a corner, let off a little back comes round feed the power in and away you go!! When your on the limit in a dc2 it is as if you have ages to correct anything - its like in slow motion!! Weird but a great car.
Rodger 26-11-2009, 13:47:50 my mate used to have a uk spec dc2. He still doesnt know why he does it! It was awesome. Front tryres really did used to dig in, and the sound.... oh man!
RvingtSix 27-11-2009, 08:47:25 Clarki - Have you ever owned one or driven one?
It would depend alot on how many hard turns and fast corners the twisties had and how confident and knowledgeable each driver was. the TEG has to stay in its power range where the MEG will come back fast no matter what the gear. I'd expect the vtec drivers gear arm to hurt a lot more and be doing a lot of 1 hand driving.
I've always wanted to driver a DC5 after sampling the DC2 years ago (UK spec) and they keep their price very well.
mccabee1983 27-11-2009, 12:56:41 Have to disagree there with the gear change, the dc2 will be a able to take corners pretty much flat out in 3rd and even 4th so no need to change gear. Its the same with the meg as well,no real need to change gear just need to be confidant that the car will settle into the corner and keep it in 3rd or 4th and carry the speed.
SaintDP 27-11-2009, 13:03:17 Ive been looking at getting a DC5. Always fancied one.
ClaneO 27-11-2009, 13:22:27 ^^ get one, then get a gruppe M induction kit and exhaust, you'll be smiling like this - :D:D:D
Jon Seal 27-11-2009, 14:45:50 I have a lot of respect for tegs/civics and the like tbh. When I had the black Meg I couldn't loose a CTR on the motorway (up to semi sensible speeds)
Dont forget it's all about torque. The JDM screamers won't feel as quick but the lack of torque can be deceptive. On he flipside a torquey turbo can flatter a bit too much (if you have ever had a conversation with a fabia vrs owner you will know this)
Bradders 27-11-2009, 15:18:43 Teg's are the bollox, my mates running a 1.8 with a 2.0 lump and it goes like Stink.
I always get the edge on pull off due to TC and all that up till 80 he always stays 1 car length behind then as soon as we touch the ton mark i pull away. After 130 he's a spec in my mirror lol.
But still makes me want S2 because of how close it is.
RvingtSix 27-11-2009, 16:03:29 Torque...Mmmmmmmmmmmmmmmmmmm
bluediamond 27-11-2009, 16:24:30 i love dc5s
I had a 'race' with one years ago, when i owned my frs. It wasnt much slower on the straights once his vtec had kicked in, but the focus left it down a twisty lane (my car had a bluefin on btw so was probably running around 240bhp)
Dean0o 28-11-2009, 12:13:36 My brother blew up his CTR (K20A2) lump through a cracked induction pipe sucking in water. Decided to put the K20A from the integra into his. Got it remmaped by CPL racing and is kicking out 234 bhp. Leaves me on the flat but the only downfall is lower torque. I pull on him up hill...

cpuldn't agree more, hit the nail right on the head. I owned mine for 2 and a half years put 25k on the clock bringing it up to 130k and I never had a hint of a problem from it. Lost only £300 when I sold it as well so that was a bargain! Real amazing drivers car and beautifully balanced, sad when I sold it for a clio 197 cup but i'm now dead chuffed having got a R26R, alot of similarities but in a more modern and quicker machine.
