well after owning the clio 172, 172, 225cup, r26 im finally out of renaultsport :(

and into a normal clio MKIII 'sport' 138 :)

should arrive in Oct. Its got a brand new all aluminium nissan engine so makes the clio lighter than the 197cup even and also nissan 6 speed box so should be reliable.
38-42mpg & only ins group 8/9. and cheaper tax, tyres, brakes than the meg . Also I reduced my £6.5k balloon payment to £0 ! and its the same per month on HP this time so i own it after 36months not like the pcp deal (i.e just £178 for 36months and then its mine !)
(then i sell and get a laguna coupe hehe)

Just moved into my new house (which is ace) and spending any more on a loan wouldnt have been possible so im glad I erased that end payment. also owning a r26 the depreciation is just daft at the moment with fuel and tax scaring people away.

:D will post pics when it arrives if anyones interested ?

cheers m8, i could of easliy afforded a clio 197 it was only gonna be £120 month on trade of a 197cup but thats without any luxuries and it also had a £6.5k balloon !

if anything the interior is nicer on the clio 138 than the clio 197 :D also it has a decent amount of torque 194nm vs 200nm on the clio 182 (220nm on 197) a remap should make it upto 197 torque and hopefully closer to 150bhp :)

already squared it with ktec that If I wan they can use my car for exhaust or remap on this new engine

sometimes you have to take a step back to take a step forward. still better than driving bout in an old banger or some faceless rep mobile.

lowered and with anthracite spary on the wheels it will look identical to this..

its also got half leather alcantara seats, satin dash, climate control, cruise control, cabbasse upgrade, full tints, and met paint as above.

New car looks nice and well done but I can't help think when you mention depreciation that the 138 will go down as much if not faster than a R26.

well, as mentioned its not really a depreciation thing at all thats never bothered me as you may not know i bought a 225cup new for just 10 months before swaping for an R26 so i know what depreciation is and i dont care. its the fuel econ im getting about 27-28mpg at the moment always crusing in 6th, i cant really use it as a work car (as i now do two journeys and take my lass to work aswell) and as a fun car as to boot it around means i put another £150 a month in fuel. Ins group 17b is pretty high when your looking at 9 points haha (although 3 are off in oct.), also tax is going up on the meganes next year to about £300 i belive ( 138 is only £160 a year) and tyres are £157 a pop on th meg which gets annoying when you end up spending £706 inc fitting !

considering the car is basically 140bhp/150lbft sub 1200kg its not bad to be only grp8 normally thats around a grp 12/13 car most are getting between 38-42mpg aswell. also as mentioned just bought a new house and with the credit crunch didnt fancy finding £6500 from my own pocket to buy the meg.
finally the meg is replaced soon for a new model that really will be depreciation city !

so anyways im confident it fits my needs its sad that you cant really use a performance car now without looking at only the fuel gauge and for the gatso

MM - have you seen the new 'Lewis' Clio models?

Seen them on the forecourt of my local dealer - in white, stickered up a bit, gloss black alloys and door mirrors etc.etc.

Looked a bit naff, but with some mods' I think they would look sweet.

Sorry - didn't get any pics' :banghead:

If you're worried about depreciation, the worst thing you can do is buy a brand new car.

I'd have just bought a 1 yr old 197 on straight 4 year finance. Would have sold the R26 private, save on the part exchange loss.

im not worried about depreciation as ive mentioned in my last few lenghy posts lol. its a lot of factors but mainly the ballon payment I ve just bought a new home and have enough outgoings to start worrying about where i find that money and what price id get in 18months for the r26 seen as the new shape is out. Fuel, tax, insurance, tyres, brakes i.e the whole deal. I cant really use the power often with 9points and cops spending 99% of there time fighting the scurge of evil performance car drivers doing 67 in a 60 ! :D
i only hope to trim down the outgoings, as mentioned it was gonna be £706 or tyres inc fitting and insurance is up for renewal in oct, brakes are wearing quite quick also.
then there is the looks, its just silly i cant leave it anywhere, was in my mates Bar the otherday parked up outside and even though it was day time I constantly had to check to see if the kids hanging around werent scratching it, ruined my free drinks and crisps :(

so, sensible cap is on. sure i could of got a 80hp derv, 1.2tce etc.. at least its got same torque as 182 and weighs less than the normal sport with a remap I should be smiling enough.

yep there alright lowered. the clio 138 has flared arches at the front and rear also compared with base models.

the list is:

coilovers,
alloy respray,
side strip re-spray (although does it add something ?)
spoiler,

thats to start with, over the years I may add remap + exhaust

also if nissan bring out a 160-70hp saloon with same engine or renault bring out a gt160 version like rumored il nick those parts.

Well you said depreciation in your OP, and your Clio is still going to depreciate, prob more than an R26/197. They seem to be selling at low prices because everyone is after a quick sale.

I dread to think how much money you've already lost, this being your 3rd new car while I've still got the same one that we had delivered on the same day. Prob enough to have cleared a ballon payment ;) May be a bit late for the sensible hat. I'd even be tempted with a wager that you'll have got rid of this before the finance ends :o

maybe.......... hahah

nah, im gonna keep it. i admit i have had fun, got the t-shirt etc.. but there is quite a diffo between a 27mpg car and a 38-42mpg car and quite a diffo between a grp 8 ins car and grp 17 on 9 points.

also i dunno if you remember but my 225cup i bought it for a lot less than i sold it for ! and the trade in on the R26 was a really good deal. Compared to list price they lost lots but ive worked out it was only £850 i lost on the 225cup (yup trade gave me 14k i paid 14.8k )and 2.2k on the R26 (but you lose that on any car driving it off the forecourt) ! so not bad m8 thats over 1.5 years of driving fun

i must finally mention, ive felt a bit trapped with renault and the end payment scenario which is why ive gone for pay 36months and then own, problem was I fancied another marque but the offers they give for trade in are simply a joke.

this time i can sell the clio and put the money onto another marque if something takes my fancy.

I just think you like getting new cars!! Bet you'll be bored with this one after a year and a half - you'll be after the new shape Meg then! ;)

Clio does look nice, especially in the photoshop, but after having 3 sports I couldn't go back to a 'normal' one now.

still a nice car the 138 riad although yes its slower but thats the only thing that is loses out to on the meg.
tbh im not too fussed about the meg after owning two in a row it was getting a bit dull, not like your really engaged in the experience unless your on a track day doing 90 around bends is so easy that it means you end up doing even stupider speeds to have fun.

miss mi 172cup for that, perhaps a rs twingo will be next hmm..

i get bored of cars very quickly, alwasy just feel like i wanna change, not sure why, but when i buy the cars, its always, this is the 1 im gonna keep this 1 till the loans through.

to be fair you dont buy a car with the mind set 'im gonna flog it in 4 months' do ya

So you've still lost £3k in trade-ins. One figure you've forgotten is the interest you've paid with no end product, plus the interest on the new one over the next 3 years and the interest for the next 3 years..

Not even driven a 197, only a 1.4 16v Mk3 Clio.
Seemed like a little Megane to me, and felt alot nicer place to be than the old Mk2's.

Except the 1*2's I hate how the normal mk2's drive.

Should be a nice enough drive to get about in and no worries for 3 years of warranty and breakdown.

Not sure I could give up a Megane for one though.

Renaults always seem to be worth about half the list price at 2 years old, and thats when I normally buy one.

You can still have a surprising amount of fun in lower powered cars IMO.

It is much easier to drive them at the limits, mainly as the limit just is no where near that of "faster" cars. Plus you can get a fair bit of satisfaction from keeping momentum up in the corners while playing "get my mpg as high as possible" :D

btw: the pic with the anth. wheels looks superb!

Nice 138.

I dont understand MegaMegane. If it was all about a cost cutting exercise, but you wanted some performance - why not a 172ff/cup?

No offence, but you seem to be reading from the MOFO school of finance, but fair play you like your new cars.

Good luck with it mate :)

I personally would never buy a new car again, but I have a bit of a track record with cars (im onto my second one since the megane went in early May) and ive made my mistakes with cars too (namely, getting rid of the megane :()

I do find now that the old saying "the grass isnt always greener" is soo true, id rather have been skint and kept the Megane, as driving became so much more dull without it.

If I could, id have an R26 or 350Z or even a V6 Clio... but its just not practical these days with the cost of everything. Plus I dont think id even spend more than £9k on a car.

Good on you for wanting to save cash on fuel, that 15mpg makes a difference these days!
