Hi,

Bought a GT DCi back in May... and have been toying with the idea of getting a plug in tuning box.

I wanted to get a tuning box as it can be taken off... whereas a remap obveyously is not as easy to reverse...

Does anyone have any knowledge as to how good these are, and whether they can have any negative effects on the car or its reliability???

Also anyone any ideas what gains I could expect and recommend any good boxes to buy???

Cheers

the majority of tuning boxes actually remap the ECU anyway, so you will still be remapping your car.

The benefit of having a tuning box is that you can add and remove the map when you see fit.

Turbo Diesels normally see a really good performance increase from a remap/tuning box, you'll get loads more torque

If you use Rstunings remote box, you buy the map and can load it on to the car yourself,then return it to standard and back again to suit your needs.
The car has no visible signs of tuning.

I had a dragon tuning box for about 6 months & then i sold that and tried a remap on my fabia vRS.

Tuning box positives;
Good gains in power
Good low down pull
Easy to install & remove
Mine had 7 settings
Better value for money as can be sold on

Tuning box negatives;
Doesn't adjust the boost, so only sends more fuel in
More smoke out of exhaust (quite alot when turbo spools up)
Not as smooth as remap
Power falls off at top end of rev range (could feel it on mine past 3k rpm)

I found the remap much better not as smokey and better at high revs but the tunning box is better value as you can sell it on.

Up to you tho, hope this helps Paul.

Hi,

Am new to all of this as i've just joined but thought I could help with this thread!!

I have a 2003 1.9 120 megane, and I wanted a diesel tuning chip. I recently bought a "plug and play" chip from ebay. I made sure it was a reputable chip and the company is www.dieseltuner.co.uk.

Cost me £150 and the difference is inredible. A lot torquier, fuel economy has gone up and just a better ride now!

Only problem is I have to replace the mass airflow meter as it was knackered and engine stutter was quite pronounced.

Getting that replaced today and hopefully...... next stop,225 front bumper!!
