: 175 dci smoke
megane175 05-08-2008, 18:05:32 Hi all, just wondered if anyone else has had any issues with smoke from the 175 dci?
No smoke for the first 10k (was remapped by rs tuning after 4.5k)then after a very long run on the m1 the other week she started smoking when the turbo cuts in,black sooty smoke.
No air leaks, nothing shows up on renault's clip as faulty the FAP filter seems to be ok too and it drives fine,so i'm a little miffed!!
Any ideas?
andyp74199 05-08-2008, 18:09:13 new diesel particulate filter maybe, remapped cars produce more soot, might be clogging your filter and giving in somehow ????
alot of tuners dont like remapping dpf equipped cars
Paul.k 05-08-2008, 18:23:03 Yeah remapped will increase smoke slightly i wouldnt worry about it if your cars not showin up a fault. Have you not changed your panel filter that should help.
On my last car which was diesel (fabia vRS) i had it mapped but i changed my panel filter and got a larger intake pipe which stop it from smoking, well no more than standard anyway.
megane175 05-08-2008, 18:30:38 Yes i put an itg filter in it from new,it's just that it never smoked in the slightest b4 and the remap has been on now for 6k!
A m8 has a fabia vrs remapped and that smokes loads too,no fap filter though.Very quick car!
RS-Tuning 05-08-2008, 20:05:52 Hmm, thats just like a car with no DPF, i wonder if it spat the filter out and somehow thinks its normal.
Does it drive as before?
megane175 05-08-2008, 20:35:02 It drives well, the clip shows only a small amount of soot and good exhaust flow through it.I thought the same thing but would expect the sensors to flag up a fault.
RS-Tuning 05-08-2008, 20:42:21 That is a really odd one, maybe we can make it even faster if the DPF has gone!
megane175 05-08-2008, 20:52:33 might free up a few bhp but it could also cause it to go into limp home mode at any given time, plus the rear end of the meg is getting covered in soot!
RS-Tuning 05-08-2008, 20:56:58 Surely renault know that it's a problem and it needs sorting though
cactusbob 05-08-2008, 20:59:23 I used to have a TD Escort that started spewing black smoke when the turbo spooled up. I always thought it was unburnt fuel. Sold it before I fixed it :)
Could be excessive overfuelling in your case, especially with a map
megane175 05-08-2008, 21:14:39 No notes or soloutions from renault on this problem so looks like it's a first!
Got a feeling the map's killed the filter....oh dear
RS-Tuning 05-08-2008, 21:20:04 That would be a first, i dont think i have ever heard of a DPF been killed in that way, only when one was set on fire, oops!
megane175 05-08-2008, 21:23:07 Nothing on renault, looks like its the first fault of its kind on the 175! think the map might of killd the filter.....
RS-Tuning 05-08-2008, 21:35:24 The only thing i'd expect the map to do if anything would be to block the filter. Never heard of one doing this, even on the seat's etc.
RS-Tuning 05-08-2008, 21:51:22 Also, didn't you have issues with your filter prior to the map?
megane175 05-08-2008, 23:26:07 It went into limp home mode once due to clogged filter but cleared once given a good drive, that was 4k or so ago,its been fine since and was sweet on a trip to the ring and back just after that first problem. i only ever use bp ultimate diesel too.
Thing is if i book it in with renault where i work, renault technical will want to know all the ins and outs due to the nature of the fault.
RS-Tuning 05-08-2008, 23:39:43 Tell them it smokes, they dont really need to know any further do they?
cactusbob 06-08-2008, 08:32:31 Absolutely ;) Unless they read this forum of course
DannagE 06-08-2008, 10:07:39 Can't say I've noticed, but I don't sit behind the exhausts when I'm driving :D
r20 cwh 07-08-2008, 14:08:59 if the DPF is gone then happy days, its ****e anyway and just clogs things up!
