Jas

Right i chatted to Dave he said the site states 25mm(eibach), but they advertise all their springs as to what drop they physically measure

for example some spax on a clio say 40mm but they have only dropped 20mm in reality

Jon, i will take pics then write it up afterwards probably at work on monday ha ha

Funny you should say that its got a crappy Khumo spare tyre off the renno, yes it is my italian stallion (lancia delta)

The fronts are done now i have just finished :D , it was a right pig of a job took 3 1/2 to do! Not bad as K-tec said 3hrs!

this is a must do on everyones list it has transformed the handling!

The steering now has feel to it, the wheel is a bit stiffer and you can feel what the wheels are doing, the ride isn't any harsher than original either as far as bumps etc

i'll do some pics tomorrow, i'm am knackered now tho'

So i changed it to go along with the wind up but that went pete tong too!!

I love the old lancia's!!

How did you get on with welding the new archeds on it?

phil
24-01-2006, 08:00:39

Blimey Phil!!!

Thats a decent bit of welding there mate!!

Getting there though mate, is yours the left hand drive one? Did they even do a rhd? :?

Looking good though mate!

Matmaxedout
24-01-2006, 11:34:17
adam, they never did a right hand drive as the norm, only conversions were done, but from what ive heard it took away some of the handling.

i loves those lancia's tooooooo

my 1st car was a delta, all be it was onlt the 1.5 (i was only 17) but it went like stink, used to beat those wannabe's in there XR3i's,  just realised that i miss the old beauty

shinyautos.com
24-01-2006, 11:40:58
Yea i thought i'd only ever seen one or two rhd's..

Good motors though!!!

I used to like the yellow ones!!

phil
24-01-2006, 12:11:36
The right hand drive ones are either 1.3, 1.5 or 1.6
mine is the delta hf turbo ie 1.6 about 140bhp but weighs only 900kg
so eats fiesta rs's for breaky!

The left hookers are the hf 4wd, integrale or evo model, which have the flared arches

mine has normal arches(whats left of them anyway!)
that welding is about 5% of the total i have done it was like a sieve(spelling?)

Phil

It was the worst car to do ever!

i could have took the lancia engine out and back in quicker!
I was gonna do a guide if people want it, but i would strongly recommend you have a garage do it, i have stripped and rebuilt Mr2's, xr2's etc over the years but this car is a pig!

The whole lot has to be stripped, brakes, hub, driveshaft the lot!

The pictures don't do it justice its awsome in the flesh!

Far better the steering has feel to it and is stiffer, the brakes are better as theirs less play in the springs, its like a go-kart is my best explanation!

Well worth doing!its how it should have been done in the first place, if the cup/trophy is the same it must be a great drive!
A very pleased phil, no knuckles left but still smiling :D

Is that a stock cup ??? how much lower is a cup compared with a normal 225 ?? presumably they are about 20mm lower with stiffer springs so the only way to improve the cup is not to fit springs but to fit the KW variant 3 Coilovers

Matmaxedout
24-01-2006, 12:46:00
yep, it's a cup, not sure how much the height is, would need to park next to a full fat and see, have to see when i get the chance.

phil
24-01-2006, 12:46:09
Yeah i guess so, the eibach's wont do anthing for the cup, the KW kit is fully adjustable for ride height!

Looks sweet mate looking to do mine soon , will be getting it done at the garage near me he said £60 to fit them leave it week and then check the tracking once it has settled proper ... If anyone has seen the Orange Clio with the Audi TT engine in it on Cliosport then it is his mate who will be lowering mine ...

phil
24-01-2006, 19:52:20
Thats cheap mate, does he know what he's letting himself in for?
get it in writing cos it will takehim 3 hours at least!

Topper225
24-01-2006, 20:08:33
Well if he can fit an Audi TT engine and gearbox into a Clio then i am sure he will sort it ... he said it though .. half the battle is being geared up for the job that is why i can't be bothered doing it myself ....

phil
24-01-2006, 20:27:24
Fair point!
takes a bit to figure out then once ones done the other sides easier cos you have learn't from your mistakeson the otherside!

Topper225
24-01-2006, 20:32:23
Well that is true , you would probably eat it in less than 3 hours now cause you know what you are doing .

phil
24-01-2006, 20:40:31
Well that is true , you would probably eat it in less than 3 hours now cause you know what you are doing .

Yeah probably, i'll start up my own Renno sport tuning shop in the South!
(and undercut K-tec,  )
good idea of what to do when i leave the army!

Topper225
24-01-2006, 20:45:21
Well why not mate you can obviously do it . I don't do much anymore as i am " spannering" all week so i don't really fancy doing it at the weekend anymore ...

phil
24-01-2006, 20:54:02
Yeah don't blame you, i prefer to do it when i want, not when i have too or it loses it appeal!
probably why the lancia has taken ages to restore!

Topper225
24-01-2006, 20:57:43
Exactly i could get motivated for a project but not for the times when your sat having your tea and then she says "the car has been making a funny noise today " and then your out at 9 pm in the rain and cold trying to sort it out ...

phil
24-01-2006, 21:01:05

Yeah not the best time of year! i'll be a seasonal mechanic i think just work in the summer!

Topper225
24-01-2006, 21:04:23
So does it make a real big difference on the handling and that vague steering feel ...

phil
24-01-2006, 21:08:51
Definately mate, its like a new car
there are a lot of speed bumps on camp and if i take it slow as normal you feel no diffrence
But the steering wheel is more stiffer (not rock hard) and you can feel what the car is doing more, like the wheels are now actually connected!

It honestly feels like a go-kart like its on rails, i'm dead chuffed anyway

and the look is much improved aswell
phil

Guys,

Does anyone know if the eibachs are the same springs that are used on the CUP?

If you follow this thread you'll see that the CUP runs eibachs with KYB shocks....

Must be why it runs so well then!

They are the best springs in my opinion, the ride has not been compramised at all, i went out tonight and drove it the same as usual and its like its on rails
so i drove it a bit harder round a corner the missus usually flaps at and she didn't even noticed, there is no body roll at all!

Phil,

Does it compromise the ride, thinking about this as my next mod but don't want a harsh ride.

andy bassett
27-01-2006, 08:06:06
dont think it will make it a harsh ride, just a slightly bit firmer and if im totaly honest you may not even feel the difference untill you put some weight in the car or your on a nasty bumpy road.
will make the handle better without a dout, will hold harder in bends with lower drag and give that feel of being on rails as they say :D

good mod to be done mate,

Craig225
27-01-2006, 12:08:03
I have had it done as well.

It can be a bit too firm if you are on a poor road.

Handling wise it has sorted the car right out. far more chuckable and corners with very little body roll.

Apparently (I think Jonseal stated this) is lower than the Cup/Trophy as well, so looks excellent too.

phil
29-01-2006, 21:49:21
Just been away for the weekend, and put some miles on the springs
I agree its a bit harsher on poor roads, but the handling far out ways this, as the handling is fantastic now
it now sits a bit lower as well with an extra 700 odd miles on it i ahve done

Jon Seal
29-01-2006, 22:11:55
I find the 225 pretty poor on bad roads anyway it doesnt half skip over some sufraces

phil
29-01-2006, 22:14:41
Yeah its not that much worse, just a bit more noticeable, worth doing tho'

i'll gets some more pics up once i clean it tomorrow its settled well is lower than a cup like you say i think the front is anyway!
