Ummm it shouldn't make any difference in real terms, it should drive the same.

Not to insult you, but it's defo in correct, etc?

What model is it?

If the car was cold and not up to temp then the limiter is set lower to save the engine. Make sure the car is fully warmed up.

Sounds like your not getting enough air in, seem to remember a similar problem with the earlier intake pipes collapsed. They would also bounce or cut power at around those revs, could also be the limiter if the engine wasn't up to temp.

Did you rev it when it was cold? as the engine has a limiter about 5k untill the engine gets warm

^ was my first thought, there is a lower rev limiter when cold.

agreed, but if its happening all the time you may have a faulty coolant sensor.
I have had a similar problem when fitting performance exhausts to 182 clios, totally guttless and need an ECU adaptives reset before they run nice again.
Yet to have had this problem with just an air filter change.
