: Electrical Gremlins!!!!
Monster Karlos 02-01-2009, 11:57:32 Someone please help me get rid of these gremlins cause they are really getting on me nerves!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!:cussing:
First of all the battery wont stop draining, ususally if its left for 24 hours or more it wont start, its had a new battery and an altanator but it still does it and an auto electrican look over it twice (once and he said needed new altanato, then again afterwards) and he cant find anything wrong.
The interior lights at the bottoms of the doors keep staying on so ive disconected them for the moment. Any ideas??
The nearside tail light flashes with the indicator, and also the nearside front indicator has stopped working altogether now. Ive changed the bulb which you have to take the bloddy wheel off to get good access(Good thinking there Renault...NOT:censored: :cussing: ) and it still doesnt work.
The alarm wont stop going off if a slight loud lorry goes by but me van and me dads scenic stay quite...5 times in 1 hour the other day!!!
Oh and finally both of the cards are playing up...think one needs reprograming and one replacing which aint cheap!!!!! cause only Renault can do it and that means their stupid labour rates!!!
HELP me PLEASE!!!!!
Bluestar 02-01-2009, 12:31:22 get the ecu reflashed. and that might stop the draining of the battery. i've seen several cars do the same thing, but no problems. yet come morning the car doesn't start.
Sounds like you have got some serious wiring issues too.
Bluestar ;)
Ant Eg 02-01-2009, 12:59:45 Sounds like water in the electrics once many lights start working at the same time. Alternatively some faulty wiring, you had any mods that might be to blame? Even leaving a live wire loose while fitting a new radio would short with any bit of the body work and flatten the battery in no time (or blow a fuse)
lemonnobby 02-01-2009, 19:56:30 If its a 1.6 16v its most proberly the cam shaft sensor causeing the battery drain. if its a 1.5 dci it maybe the glow plug relay
the lights at the bottom of the door are the floor traps shut? this can cause the lights to come on if the vehicle has this function. or the switch is broken.
if the tails lights are flashing its problerly a poor earth or poor connection at the bulb holder. for the front indicator not working its never a blub you need a new bulb holder they are now a modified part. but i have seen a few with the headlight gone to. make sure you put it in right too.
The alarm is proberly down to the ultrasonics. this needs a wiring modification.
And in the key cards have you tryied some batterys?

First of all thank you for your replys.
Ill have to try the new bulb holder any idea how much it costs???
The floor bins were the first thing that I tryed to see if they were the reason that they were staying on. I ll have to check the switches, but this is not a priority.
As for the cards Ive changed the batteries twice and they still play up.
The battery drain well I dont know....cause its a 1.9dci so does that still apply for the glow plug relay.
With the alarm modification what would this involve???
With the rear lightsIve checked the bulb holder and coludnt find anything wrong with it.
Would any of the above effect the perfomnce of the engine cause it feels a little slow of late???

It has got an aftermarket radio in but was pro fitted.

Would Renault have to do this????
Bluestar 02-01-2009, 22:19:20 yes mate, don't know anyone else that would do it. the ecu isn't like the old school boxes where everything is controlled from it. where the car runs through the can bus system there is like 3 ecu on board. and because things are controlled via processors etc. sometimes they can go tits up and be permently in a open closed state.
it's difficult to explain... but you probably read the problems that we've had with intermitant wipers, lights, dash lights not lighting up and electric stearing still on whith engine off! but everything is fine fuse/wiring wise. you turn the car off and back on again and everything is normal.
it could be something really stupid and silly thats causing the battery to go flat. with a ecu reflash it could reprogram the logic and processors.
Hope you understand what i mean.

Micky 02-01-2009, 22:34:19 sounds like what happened to my mates polo, he took it in for a clutch change, the muppets totally fcuked the car, they ruined the electrics beyond repair, a full new electrics system is needed. the car still works, but most of the switches, dont work, or do summint they arent supposed to

I dont like the sound of that!!!!
lemonnobby 03-01-2009, 21:05:35 First of all thank you for your replys.
Ill have to try the new bulb holder any idea how much it costs??? ABOUT 17QUID MAYBE LESS

WITH THE BATTERY DRAIN IS THE ALARM STILL GOING OFF? HAVE YOU TESTED THE BATTERY?
With the alarm modification what would this involve??? TAKING THE PANELS OFF AT THE REAR TO GET TO THE ALARM WIRING AND YOU HAVE TO SERPERATE THE ULTRASONICS FROM THE OTHER ALARM LOOM
With the rear lights Ive checked the bulb holder and coludnt find anything wrong with it. TIGHTEN THE TERMINALS AND PUT SOME VASALINE IN THE TERMINALS
Would any of the above effect the perfomnce of the engine cause it feels a little slow of late???NOT REALLY BUT THE EGR VAVLE MAY REQUIRE CLEANING
Monster Karlos 06-01-2009, 11:39:52 NOT REALLY BUT THE EGR VAVLE MAY REQUIRE CLEANING
Ill have to get that done at some point.
The batterey has been tested by its manufacture and an auto electrican.
Yer I kind of guessed about the cards....aint cheap though.
Thanks for the rough price on the holder.
Also thanks for the advice on the rear lights.
Monster Karlos 17-01-2009, 13:54:08 So I can change the near side front indicator I had to take to me local garage cause I couldnt get the thing out now its got to have the front bumper and light unit out to change the bloody thing!!!!!!!:cursing:  :rl: :cussing: :madfawk:
