: 2.0 dCi MPG
pocket 29-01-2009, 15:38:06 This thread is mainly for the 2.0 dCi engine, the GT150 and RS175. But all you other dCi folk feel free to chip in.
I own a GT150 btw.
When i got my car it was because i'd be using it alot for work and used the motorway. Then 3 months after getting it i was made redundant and had to go back to more or less an office job in glasgow city centre. I now hardly get on the motorway and my average MPG is pretty low at about 36-37mpg.
I admit i had been driving fairly "quick" but ive also been trying to drive as economical as possible in the past month and it only made about 1MPG of a difference. My journey to work would take about 25min outside the rushhour but it takes about 45min in slow, stop/start traffic. Its just under 8miles one way.
the offical figures for the GT150 are;
Urban MPG (km/litre) 40.9 (14.48)
Extra MPG (km/litre) 60.1 (21.27)
Combined MPG (km/litre) 51.4 (18.19)
Now if i reset the trip i can get the 60MPG when on the motorway and travelling a constant 65mph-ish. its better if going about 65mph.
But as i said i don't get on the motorway. I've been changing gear at the correct time but it just seems this car does not like going slower than 50mph.
Has anyone else had this experience? What kind of MPG do you get and what kinda of driving?
Oh the car has only done 6k miles but doesnt seem to be improving.
mcmurr4y 29-01-2009, 17:59:20 I've a 1.9dci 120 mate with 65k on the clock.
Ive noticed that my MPG has fallen to around 35-38MPG since I stopped doing as many motorway miles. And I dont drive it too hard.
For 3 months before xmas I was doing 300 motorway miles and maybe 100 town miles a week. My MPG was sitting at around 45-50MPG for the combined cycle which wasnt too bad.
aguycalleddb 29-01-2009, 23:16:17 I'm getting around 40mpg at the minuet just traveling to work. got it up to 52mpg on my last motorway journey.
DCI 175 with 8k on the clock ;)
C14IRE 30-01-2009, 13:41:26 i have a 175 with 10k on the clock, i reset everytime i fill up and at the minute im getting 36mpg i have only had it 3weeks and its mostly town driving, i expected to get more but not really bothered at the minute just trying to enjoy it
Tyler UK 30-01-2009, 23:20:33 I have a 175 remapped to 206 by RS Tuning and I get 37mpg on average over the last year. Best ever tankfull was 45mpg, worst was 30!

pocket 02-02-2009, 10:02:16 hmmm, so i guess my MPG isn't that bad then. Looks like i just need to get some motorway driving in.
Tyler UK 03-02-2009, 12:39:49 had 70mpg off my RS.

If that's right.. my car is broken! Best I have ever had was 565 miles out of a tank and I was driving like a nun!
I normally do well to get 450!
r20 cwh 04-02-2009, 22:26:16 yup it is right, the joys of the M8 every ****ing day.

chris g 06-03-2009, 00:48:55 1.9 dci remapped and i average 36mpg town driving during the week and 45mpg mtorway at the weekends. Diesels are only good when they are moving constant. Thy just drink ur fuel when u sit about traffic.

any car is **** in traffic!!
my 172 got 22mpg most days due to glasgow traffic whereas the dci barge was 35 odds!
175dcicup 11-03-2009, 04:25:46 175 dci used to average 37/39 now with remap average 43/45 combination of dual carrigeway and b roads about 85 miles daily driving briskly where possible
F3RG!E 06-06-2009, 21:27:45 Im getting an average of 41mpg from Ayrshire to Glasgow, A roads & Motorway, iv got an RS175,
pocket 08-06-2009, 10:58:26 further to my original post made back in january i have managed to increase my MPG from 37 to 39 by changing the route i take home from work.
For anyone who knows the area: i'm in cambuslang, i used to drive to and from work this way. i drive down the EK road to mill street, pass rutherglen, shawfield stadium then the gorbals and then over the kingstone bridge to charring cross.
I still drive to work that way but now when i drive home i go on the M8 at charring cross for 2 junctions and take the denniston turnoff and turn right. drive staight thought every juction passing the forge retail park and its down hill nearly all the way until Dalmarnock road. Then i drive thought rutherglen and burnside back up the EK road.
One advantage of this route is everyone isn't racing each other like on th eother route. and the fact its downhill all the way. It isnt good for potholes mind you. No point going to work this way as its uphill and the M8 is a nightmare in the morning.
If i drive nice, constantly coasting and the roads are clear etc, i'll maybe reach 44mpg. the 39mpg is a mixture of booting it and erm not.
chris_12345 08-06-2009, 11:35:15 I have a dci 1.5 100BHP which used to get an average of 54MPG. I do 50 miles/day with 10miles on a dual carriageway and the rest B road and city crawl. Since fitting a dci tuning box it's up to 60+.
I get about 750 miles to the tank.
I don't drive it hard, as it's a Renault and it will break, but speed I find for best MPG is between 45 and 55.
With £35 a year TAX it's about the cheapest car on the road without having to resort to a Aygo.....
GtLuke 11-06-2009, 16:04:36 I got 45/47mpg going down to southend the other week :D
Well happpy but now im home again back down to the low 30s
:(
C14IRE 18-06-2009, 09:43:39 I have started doing alot more motorway miles recently aswell as my usual route to & from work which is in the centre of town, im now getting between 43 & 48mpg :D big difference to 36mpg, overall im getting in and around 500mile to a tank :D
F3RG!E 18-06-2009, 17:16:21 Get ur foot down Girl...lol, my dci gives me 38mpg in town though i got 42.4mpg on way home from FCS
stu1608 19-12-2009, 08:49:35 My GT 150 dci with a mix of motorway and round town driving gives me 46 mpg. If I were only to drive round town / stop start short trips etc I would get exactly the mileage you are showing ( 36/37 mpg) which when you think about it, is pretty good urban(ish) mileage from a 2.0 diesel. If you were to drive a 2.0 petrol in a similar way you'd be expecting about 24 ish i'd guess, so getting close to 40 mpg on that kind of journey with a bit of boot also is pretty good. These engines really come into their own mpg wise on a good run. You'll also find they are pretty econmical over 70 mph also. Don't feel you've got to sit at 65mph to get any sort of economy out of it as you may as well be in a 1.1 fiesta! lol. As long as you're not on and off the throttle and at a steady speed, you'll get plenty on the motorway.
sammk6 03-02-2010, 10:03:15 37 mpg isn't too bad in a shortish rush hour stop - start journey

i found that out on a trip from glasgow and manchester and back. was between 80 and 90 for most of the journey and got an ave of 46mpg.
a wee update from me also.
With all the rain before christmas my MPG fell to about 32 from and ave of 39mpg. I assume it was all the surface water and slightly slower traffic.
Also the week after christmas the temp was about -10 to -12 degrees at home just outside glasgow then only -8/-9 in the city centre. My MPG fell to 22. Its back up at normal no so at least i know the cars not broken. :D

Exactly :) Which is damn good mpg for a swift run too. I travel between Oldham and Bradford for work and at around 80mph I can get a good 48mpg. I think sometimes that it depends on the route as the M62 on that stretch has a fair few hills on it, so you don't lose as much rolling speed if you like, which benefits mpg. However if I travel about 60 ish, I will get about 58 mpg which is better, but not really practical most of the time. To be honest I find you'll get a good 50mpg around 70-75 all day which is a much more comfortable speed to be cruising at. And I'm glad to hear the weather has improved too!! -12 !!!! eeek!
I get around 38mpg usually with my GT, but work is only 10 minutes from mine, last week I was getting over 50mpg on longer journeys.
Chris D 10-02-2010, 13:31:28 I've got a DCi175. I get the following:
Town work only- 38mpg
Motorway work, driving in a most, uhm, spirited manner- 48mpg
Motorway work with cruise on at 62mpg (this is the best I've had it)- 63mpg
These are real fill to fill figures (using a calculator with my fat little digits and everything), which confirm the dash readings are accurate.
I have a tuning box that boosts the power by 20bhp across the entire rev range, and its made no difference to fuel consumption whatsoever.
stu1608 19-02-2010, 04:06:43 I often wonder if the weight and extra drag of my glass roof slightly affects my overall mpg. Does anyone have any idea if this does and the actual increase in weight with having the glass roof?
