: watching Formula 1, which event??
ClaneO 18-02-2009, 13:15:58 Me and my mates are tying to plan a trip to watch the formula one in the flesh but don't know which would be the best event to go to!!??
I know a few people off here have been to various ones, so i'd like some feedback as to which one would be the best to watch/cheapest/easiest to get to??
initial thoughts are the Belgian GP just now.
Cheers

richandgem 18-02-2009, 13:25:53 are there many spectator stands at spa? its seems like there nothing but trees around the track
Micky 18-02-2009, 13:27:23 my choice would be spa, Monaco or the night race
ClaneO 18-02-2009, 13:38:56 are there many spectator stands at spa? its seems like there nothing but trees around the track
Not sure bud, we're only thinking there because you can drive there and its a good track! not sure what it would be like to spectate though!
C14IRE 18-02-2009, 13:40:11 Monaco would be my choice :D
One day i'll get to go :D
ClaneO 18-02-2009, 13:44:57 Monaco would be the obvious choice, but on a limited budget here, the tickets cost alot more for monaco and im sure even travel and accomodation would be killer aswell!
Matty 18-02-2009, 13:46:13 Hungary, its out of the Euro and not too far.
Or France or Canada too, oh wait u cant any more thanks to Mr E
ClaneO 18-02-2009, 13:48:23 Hungary?? good idea about it being out the Euro, hmmm i'll have a dig around and look at that!

jaybyme 18-02-2009, 13:53:03 with about 350 Forints to the pound at the mo
It will be pretty cheap.
Budapest is a great city as well
ClaneO 18-02-2009, 13:56:00 Sounds good, good nights out would be ideal aswell!
On the Formula one website, it sells 3 day passes and then Sunday passes, are the 3 day passes for thurs, fri and sat?? and you've got to buy the sunday tickets seperately?

Im sure the 3 day ones Are Friday (practice) Sat (qual) Sunday Race, if you go on a Thurs all you will see will be a load of vans and trailors setting up.
jaybyme 18-02-2009, 14:18:16 3day tickets would be Friday,Saturday,Sunday.
Cheapest way would be to buy the tickets in Hungary I would think.
Would be for me as I have contacts there ;)

Yeah exactly my thoughts but the Sunday tickets are round about the same price as the 3 day tickets :wtf: thats whats confusing me!

I've got a quote for around £650 for flights from glasgow, hotel in central Budapest for 4 nights and the 3 day tickets for Red Bull stand at the grand Prix
thats from the Formula 1 website, what you guys think, sound alright??

Nice one Matty that would be sweet! i'll give that Air track a look anyway!
ClaneO 19-02-2009, 12:10:51 Right so were pretty much set about going to Budapest on July 23rd,
Next question is, is it better to pay for the good grandstand tickets or just General admission??
or meet half way with a cheaper grandstand??
sorry for all the Q's guys, i want it to be good!!
Cheers

richandgem 19-02-2009, 12:21:17 Monaco would be my choice :D
One day i'll get to go :D
same here, we both keep toying with that idea. we keep looking at hotels overlooking the track. one day
Naith 19-02-2009, 12:28:27 Großer Preis Santander von Deutschland (german gp) on the 12th july.... at the new nurburgring!
or Gran Premio Santander d'Italia (monza) just to watch the passion and performance of the new cars, 13th september
although in the current climate Turkey and the hungaroring would be a good call
dont discount Spain either, Spanish GP though and not the european, that just looks boring as.
Naith 19-02-2009, 12:29:09 oh and general admission....
means you can walk around and find where you like rather than being stuck somewhere
ClaneO 19-02-2009, 13:38:08 oh and general admission....

I was thinking that, wouldn't like to be stuck in a shat position, i'd hope you'd be able to walk around anyway with the stand tickets??
Jon Seal 19-02-2009, 13:46:17 Only two iwould bother with would have to be Monaco or nurburgring.
DCP888 19-02-2009, 18:27:52 Mate having been to both Monaco and Spa, if you could afford Monaco( as so bleeding expensive) I would say deffo Monaco, so small and great atmosphere and noisey, but thrills can't beat SPA

geoffbryan 19-02-2009, 20:47:41 how did i not see this all before?!
i was looking at going to the inaugral abu dhabi grand prix in november, first race, last race of the season...
ClaneO 19-02-2009, 22:14:25 i think we've decided on Hungary as we can get to sample the budapest nightlife as well as we will want to go pretty mad at night lol! would love to go to Spa though but dont know if its any use for nightlife etc!

Went to the last one at Nevers last year & paid for seats. Cost alot more but we could wonder around. Saw the practice from the stands then main event from our seats. Place was not 100% full so we took a punt & "nicked" some seats in a higher row with a better view of the track.
Problem with the stands for themian event to get a good position you had to be there hours before race started & means you can't wonder round oggling pit babes. If I could afford to do it again I'd go for Abu Dhabi

i've heard the girls in budapest are crazy hot!
DrEnzo 20-02-2009, 12:28:27 Been to over 20 GP's around Europe and even to Asia I would say ones that are planned for 09
Barca.... I have been 4 times now. Great venue great city my number 1 the traffic is epic. But its not to far from the city which is just mental for the weeked.
Did Monte Carlo with a mate on there yacht we were next to Montoya and oppsoite Schu but the fees for mooring were over £20K+ for the weekend. Thank god i did not pick up the bill (yacht extra) Very good but without the £££ forget it.
Despite what ppl say Hunagry is ****... All the ladies are in mafia run strip clubs its not cheap and the F1 faclilty is one of the worst anywhere, the heat is horrible. Got a great picture of the Senna memeorial in the bin area.I would never go here again. As for hiring cars thats anther story. PPL think its cheap but its not really. Pretty grim place. Oh and to add to that i got pulled to DD there as the limit is 0.00 ZERO few bribes later i was off its that sort of place the Police target no locals...
Monza....Well Milan is a nice city but again epic traffic issues and the locals cut the fences to get in. Nost the best venue but nice city
But all towns ramp the prices for F1 so dont expect a cheap weekend
I would say Barca is number 1 venue in Europe it has the track/ppl/nightlife etc
DrEnzo 20-02-2009, 12:31:23 Pit girls in Hungary the best and only thing there

Norvern Rob 20-02-2009, 23:48:36 I went to Budapest for 5 days in 2007 and would back up everything DrEnzo says about it, parts of it are extremely dodgy at night and not that much to do - the city is massively spread out and most of it is a dump. We got done for nearly £7 a beer at one bar - it wasn't even a strip club!
There are plenty of lovely women though.
DrEnzo 21-02-2009, 12:54:03 I went via Vienna then drove to the Budapest. I was only in the city for 3 nights but it was enough. The city has a few very nice buildings & bridges but thats about it on the beauty side
Yes there are normal bars with fit ladies but same goes for any city in Europe. Seen just as good if not better in Barca and Milan.
It is all split up try finding a decent resteurant
However there is a real seedy side to the place. Lots of strip joints. We went to one where we got the ususal... 10 mins in the place big bills comes for about .
We stayed in a top hotel and were offered hard drugs by lots of staff. Which never happens any other hotels i stay in.
I rememeber thinking it will be dirt cheap here ex soviet etc... But its not cheap and the quality is crap. Its a bit like a place where no money has been spent for 25+ years and has some real underlying social issuees..
I roll big time at the F1 i get pits passes and stay in the best places but even in Buadpest in a top hotel on out roof top balcony i wish i was in Barca...
Look how they remember Senna...
