: DIY'd My Alloy Wheel Refurb
Matty 24-02-2009, 18:51:32 Well in true top gear style and after getting silly quotes from people for one alloy refurbing in Anthro to match the others after a very bad incident with a curb i decided to have a go at refurbing the wheel myself. After all how hard can it be??
I ordered The anthro paint (ready made in cans)
Prima
Sanding Stuff
Laquer
Filler
and the other stuff i needed.
First stage was to sand the wheel down
http://i162.photobucket.com/albums/t244/m4tty100/IMG00362.jpg
Second sage was to fill the bad marks with a bit of filler then allow to dry, fine sanded the marks and rubed down again.
http://i162.photobucket.com/albums/t244/m4tty100/IMG00363.jpg
next step was to prime the wheels, alow to dry then wet and dry again then prime again.
http://i162.photobucket.com/albums/t244/m4tty100/IMG00364.jpg
Final steps were to put three thin coats of anthro paint on allowing to touch dry in between coats.

3 coats of laquer

I take it the colour is the same on both the clio and meg anthro wheels? I'll have the other one off you if it is? I've got a small touch up I'll have a go at.

The only code you need is the paint code which i found on Renault Sport, the other stuff was just generic paint shop stuff from St Helens Paint

I need your skills mate!!! Will PM you!
Mavrick 03-03-2009, 09:10:56 Matty, can you tell me, did you use a high gloss lacquer, and what type of filler did you use?
Matty 03-03-2009, 09:19:13 Matty, can you tell me, did you use a high gloss lacquer, and what type of filler did you use?
Just used the Hardner that was supplied by the paint people mixed the golfball of filler to the pea of hardner. And again with the lacquer just there general that they supplied normal clear lacquer.
Mavrick 03-03-2009, 09:20:24 Did you buy it as a kit then.
Matty 03-03-2009, 09:27:02 No i found the company that made the paint code and then saw they did the lacquer and filler and just used what they supplied.
Mavrick 03-03-2009, 09:45:34 Sorry for being a pain, but I've been on the Auto-Paint St Helens web site and I am having difficulty finding the right products. My shopping list so far is:-
400ML ACRYLIC PRIMER £3.95, CLEAR LACQUER 400ml AEROSOL £3.95, 400ML MIXED AEROSOL SPRAY £6.99, 1KILO BODY FILLER £5.95.
Is this correct. Cheers
Matty 03-03-2009, 10:31:23 yeah that looks pretty similar to mine same laquer and filler. I would find something to try the paint on before you do a wheel.
Mavrick 03-03-2009, 11:09:18 Good sugesstion, thanks for you help, i'll get ordering.
