: Time for another Megane :-)
rhaythorne 25-06-2006, 16:14:47 Afternoon everyone :)
Just dropped by to say hello after having seen a few links to this forum over on renaultsport.co.uk.
I've been driving Renaults for the last quarter of a century or so  I just love 'em. Unfortunately my latest pride and joy (a Clio 172 Cup) met an untimely death last month after being battered from behind by someone in a Merc who then sped off leaving me to pick up the pieces, and the bill
Anyway, never being one to be discouraged, last Friday I decided to rejoin the Megane fold and ordered a 225 Cup. My last Megane was a 1998 2.0 16V Coupe (as you can see in the pic below) and I'm sure the 225 Cup will be a vast improvement.
Blasts from the past

From Top Left: 5 GTX (1986), Clio 16V (1994), Megane 2.0 16V Coupe (1998), Clio 172 Cup (2003), 18 Auto (1982), 16TL (1978)
Fingers-crossed and touch wood, I should be back on the road again come late August/early September. Too bad I'll be missing the Brands Hatch trackday on August 21st though.
I have a question about the new Megane: Just what are "see me home" headlights? :?
andy bassett 25-06-2006, 18:13:26 they are a function that wen you pull up in the dark and you turn of the car the lights willgo of wen you open the door, so wat you do is pull the full beam stalk back and hold it back for about 5 secs , so wen you open the doo and get out your lights will stay on for 30secs after closing and locking the car,
thinks its ideal if you got a long drive or no lighting out side your house,
bottom line it gives you 30secs of light wen you grt out the car than turns of.
andy.
shinyautos.com 25-06-2006, 20:46:44 Hi mate welcome to the site! :)
Bet you can't wait to get hold of the 225! :D
Yep as andy said turn the engine off and flash your main beam stalk and they will stay on for about 30 seconds i think it is and then the more times you pull it it adds another 30 seconds so 2 pulls 60 seconds and so on.
rhaythorne 25-06-2006, 21:35:19 Cheers for the info and the welcome guys. "See me home" headlights could actually be of real practical use to me. I have a bit of an interest in astronomy and have a portable telescope which I occasionally take out to the countryside on clear nights (pointing skwards and not through the local girls' boarding school windows you understand... well, mostly not anyway ). On more than one occasion I've stumbled as I've been carrying the scope across a field and ended up face down in a cow pat  The "see me home" function would be absolutey perfect to avoid similar ghastly incidents!
Anyhow, back to cars. No, I can't wait to get behind the wheel of the 225 Cup. I've been using the bus for the past month now after losing the 172 Cup and public transport is quite frankly doing my head in! August/September just can't come soon enough for me. Roll on delivery day! :D
shinyautos.com 25-06-2006, 21:38:55 What you could do then mate is wire up a wireless remote control unit up to the fog lights so when you want to go back to your car blip the remote and on they'll come!
rhaythorne 25-06-2006, 22:22:53 Splendid idea; why didn't I think of that :)
Still, I really wanted the 225 Cup as a trackday car which maintains some practicallity for everyday use. I briefly considered the Clio 255 but it's just not a realistic option for me. If I really get into the astronomy thing I'll have to buy a pick-up or a 4x4 to carry all the gear'n'gizmos around... or build a back garden observatory after I've won the lottery
I'll now be missing out on the Renaultsport trackday at Brands Hatch on 21st August. Are there any other trackdays you can recommend around October/November time?
Doc883 27-06-2006, 13:18:50 Welcome :D What spec/colour did you go for and where did u buy from ?
rhaythorne 27-06-2006, 14:15:59 Basic Cup spec in "Ultra Blue". The colour's not really important to me and to be honest I'm not even really sure what "Ultra Blue" looks like  Is it like a non-metallic 172 Cup blue or a brighter F1 / 182 Cup French racing blue?
I'm buying via gr8cardeal.co.uk which a few people on the renaultsport forum had mentioned. I wasn't aware of buymynewcar.co.uk at the time. Initial impressions seem favourable - they responded promptly to my emails, answered the phone and seemed to know what they were taking about :) I also contacted the broker that I bought my 172 cup from (broker4cars.co.uk) three years ago but they didn't even reply on this occasion.
I was originally considering the Clio 197 but, on paper at least, that's actually not as quick as my old 172 Cup and I really don't want a drop in performance. The 225 Cup is very quick and current prices are just too keen to ignore.
With the 225 I get all the bells and whistles and a step up in performance :)
cactusbob 27-06-2006, 14:38:20 I like the colour of your 18 :D :D
My first car was a 1984 9 GTL in that exact same colour, Champagne I think they called it :D
rhaythorne 27-06-2006, 14:49:55 Yep, Champagne Gold I believe it was called :) Nice car the 18 Auto. Had some fuel vapourisation problems, though nowhere near as bad as the 5 GTX which was dreadful in heavy traffic. Acceleration on kickdown would certainly surprise a few Cavalier and Cortina/Sierra drivers.
BlackRat250 28-06-2006, 21:03:59 Welcome to the site mate
BlackRat250 28-06-2006, 21:04:21 Some of those cars are older than me
cactusbob 28-06-2006, 23:10:39 But you're barely old enough to drive anyway Dave
BlackRat250 29-06-2006, 18:15:44 ha lol, only been driving for 7 years
rhaythorne 30-06-2006, 10:25:08 23 years for me http://www.h-spot.net/rlt/oldfogeywheels.gif
When my 225 is delivered it'll probably take me half-an-hour to figure out how to get in and start it up - all that complicated, new fangled keyless entry stuff
shinyautos.com 30-06-2006, 10:28:39 Been driving for 4 years in July
On my second car and its a yummie 225! :)
