Hi Guys,

My drivers side window stopped working a couple of weeks ago and just a couple of days ago the car has started making a funning 'ticking over' noise when stationary.

I've just got it back from the garage and been told the regulator has gone on the window which will cost me £300 in total and the noise is coming from either a faulty water pump or cam belt (just done 50,000 miles) which will cost me another £350.

Do either of these problems sound familiar to anyone and if so...is this price about right?

Get a regulator off ebay, you can fit it in less than an hour

Just put my car in garage for
1. window not working
2. auto xenons not levelling
3. ticking noise when stationary
4. emissions light on frequently
5. rough idle

they came back to me with the following fixes
1. new window regulator (thats fine)
2. new auto leveller (fine again
3. they cant hear any ticking noise (lies)
4. this was just seemingly an intermediate fault and was reset
5. again they dont seem to be able to detect this fault (why not?)
6. they said i need a new trackrod end which is all good since i never knew that :)

Will see how the car is running when i pick it up tomorrow but ill show show them the ticking noise etc and see what they say!

I think that will all be covered under warranty

Ive just booked mine in for a week today, I think I'll have a go at the regulator myself though and try and save a few hundred quid

The regulator is quite simple, remove the trimmings from the door and undo a few bolts. It'll be the usual torx heads of them so be prepared.

ticking noise is normally a vvt unit or dephaser unit on a 1.6 16v mate
