Has anyone eperienced this in there car that when pulling away from freshly started up and with the steering full locked a clunking noise.
It seemes to be about one revolution of the wheels turning and then a "clunk".
Anyway took it to dealers and they suspect its the springs and the fact that they are not seated and the clunk is them finding a comfortable place to sit again..
They said its a common fault .

I think I remeber someone mention a similar prob before, turned out to be something to do with a self test on the ABS. Does it only make the noise once?

Mines the same..... Seems to be only when the car is very cold. ie. 1st thing in the morning. Just for a second after moving off in a forward direction from the parked position.

sounds silly but my new 225 does it to, but if i pull away with the stereo on i get the feed back noise through the speakers so its got to be soink with an electrical feed or pulse to it,

The car should do what is known as an ABS purge when moving off in a forward direction the first time after the engine is started. It does this before the car reaches 10km/h.

If the clunk you are feeling is an ABS purge, then the clunk will be felt irrespective of whether the car is on full lock or in a straight ahead position.

Urm......are you sure its not your central locking coming in?
It auto locks the car then you go over like 6mph and stays locked till you turn the ignition off or open the door manually.

Sounds good to me as well.

Picked the car up from dealers today.
They changed a rotating switch! in the steering column.
When they told me this I thought it sounded a bit suspect but then am not familiar with the mechanics so couldnt question.
Anyway I pulled away with the sound as apparent as always!
Was that FFing mad I chose not to go back in and blow the roof off making a fool of myself.
Will be on the phone first thing....and it will be them who come and pick the car up from me this time.
Ill be able to trash the living daylights out of the courtesy car again and take my anger out on it tho..
I will however mention the ABS test because this could be it..
I also asked them to replace a barcode sticker that is inside the door shut due to it holding water in side.
What a nightmare with this...
They needed my passport, licence and the V5 to order one.!!!!!!

Hey Guys,

the Sound is absolutely normal, our RS-Megane will do this
Sound after Starting and start driving to a Speed around 3-5 Km/h.
It is something from the Traction-Control "ASC" / ABS.
My Volvo T5-R does the same.

It checks or calibrates something`s. Like the "Knock" on the Brake
Pedal from older ABS-Vehicles at Start.

Nothing to worry about. :D

Go on Driving.
