Mine does not like third at all and is pretty much grinding all the time to get it in. Mainly changing down, but also up as well sometimes. I have a feeling that its on its way out. Only done 11K !!

Yes mate.

two of my mates have 197's, one has a 07 plate with a generation one box and the other an 08 plate with a gen two box

the gen two box crunched if you skipped 5th and went from 4th gear to 6th

and the gen one box crunched from 2nd to 3rd and 3rd to 4th, then it just completly gave up the ghost one day

they aint the strongest of boxes tbh

I often do it, no point in putting it into 5th just for the sake of it.

If I've reached the speed I want to cruise at in 4th then I just drop it straight to 6th

cos as soon as you have changed into 5th it's buzzing to change into 6th! i always block changed 4th to 6th unless i was really giving it some welly tbh

Dave i had the same problem with mine and took it in, there was something wrong with it, common fault.

Third gear is getting bad on ours, I will be getting them to look at it when it goes in for its service next month

Friend of mine had 2 replacement boxes on his 197 for crunching issues.

Took mine in and they changed the gearbox oil. Said there was nothing wrong with it. It is now in the hands or Renault Customer Services.

All, On advice from Ren CS i took the car to a different dealer yesterday. It went in and i took a ren tech out with me and showed him the problem. He knew within minutes of going out it was buggered.

He put his findings through to Renault warranty, who agreed to have a new box fitted.

I would highly recommend getting it to a dealer and get them to look at it.

truffs was a bugger into 3rd.

Thats not good mate. Its in at Allen Renault Northampton. Its a new dealership. The tech knew his ren sports inside out. I mentioned to him about all the problems, he said - Bring them in !!!

yea ive done 2 197 boxes in work and we have also done another one as well 2 56 plates and one 07 plate

Just picked it up. Nice new gearbox.

g/box is fine on mine (touch wood)it's the dam top engine mounting that the problem, causes a bad vibration through the bulkhead when changing down gear, quick trip into the local dealers for warranty claim me thinks

ste, i think its just the phase 1 gear boxes mate. they changed to the phase 2's mid way through building the R27's. I just missed out on the new box. Well, until now !

oh yes !!! doesn't rev as much for starters !

Cams, inlets, full exhaust, custom ITG airbox setup + a remap for all of that!..... and some secret stuff coming next week :sunglasses:

Just thought i'd add to this.
Had my gearbox start crunching on 4th and it was a 58 so wouldve been 2nd gen. Took it to sjcooks and replaced the gearbox under warranty.

My mates went after 12k and reno replaced it without any issues etc

If needed i have a 200 breaking if parts needed

try changing gearbox oil ! you may have to change it twice to get an improvement
