: Dumb question about the oil level

The computer tells me the oil level is correct. Over time, the number of bars has diminished, indicating some nominal uasge. I've done 6,000 miles since the last service, so oil consumption is light, as expected.

When I check the dipstick, its showing the oil level is near the top of the stick, but I dont know if thats because oil in the dipstick tube is getting smeared all over the stick when I pull it out. Is there some special way of sticking the stick in, and pulling it out, so this doesnt happen, and you can get an accurate reading on the stick?

Or am I just an idiot?!?:o

erm.......... :D

take stick out.
Wipe off oil.
put stick back in.
Take stick back out and read oil level.
Put stick back in.

there is a small indent where the levels are marked so you cant be picking up oil from the sides when you take it out.

Okay. It was a dumb question!

I suppose part of it for me is that fully synthetic oil is so thin, and modern cars arent like the old ones where the oil was jet black on the dipstick, making it harder to see the damned stuff!

Lol its understandable with the way the stick is flimsy and twists..
