Just had a look through the prices and options for the new RS250.

Jesus, I didn't think it was going to be that much of a bump up in price compared to the previous RS.

Just spec'd up a new 250 with the same spec as my 225 - £25,950

That's just to get it to the same level as my 225 features wise. Not auto wipers, keyless entry etc as standard. Real shame that Renault have turned into BMW and every nice little feature is now extra.

It is too expensive....vote with your wallets then people!

Bizarre isn't it? We get told we're in a recession, that inflation is at an all-time low, that times are hard, that we need to spend to stave off disaster etc etc etc BUT prices of stuff only ever seems to be heading in one direction.

I'm quite surprised because I've always found that RenaultSport offer the best car for very very good prices.

To be honest that's now in Golf territory and apart from the 25bhp less the main reason why people don't buy the GTI is the price of them. Now the Megane is the same it's competing in a higher price bracket.

This is the trouble, for that money it's pushing the RenaultSport fans out to be honest. Really is quite a shame.

I mean for me personally I'm not in a position to even buy a £19k car as I'm planning to keep my 225 and buy an RS Twingo/Clio as a daily driver next year. But if I was the new RS250 would be pushing it as it's still a Megane.

You're approaching Impreza/350Z territory with that kind of money.

I have to admit i was let down by the fact that all the things i would want on it are all options. It reminded me of a typical Audi, add on the essential options at the car puts on another 25% price increase.

I very much doubt anyone with any sence is going to be paying £25k for the new RS. A bit like people didn't pay £23k for a specced up R26. There will be discounts available just like any previous model.
One things for sure though, if you can get one with a healthy discount, I feel it will be a performance bargain IMO as I get the feeling it's going to be a weapon..

It wont be long before Renault caves in and discounts the fellas big time.

Just give it a few months.

Absolutely right mate, but I got my 225 for £16,500 which was a big discount. If you can save £4k off the price from a broker, you're still looking at £19-20k and that's the basic one!!

Performance wise I'm sure it will be awesome but then again so is a mapped 225/R26.

Just seems that Renault could shoot themselves in the foot a little bit that's all.

Bit of price drift going on here.

The Cup is 22K list. Start to trim some discount off the salesman in his tumbleweed riddled Ren showroom and it might start to give me a woody.

Value for money has always been the key appeal of Renaultsport. I'm sure this fact isnt lost on Renault and I'd hope they will allow some flexibility in pricing.

They cant be helped by the weak £ at the moment. Bit of a pain in the arse when its the biggest market for RS cars too.

If the R26 or R26.R had produced waiting lists you could have seen the confidence in pricing making sense but as it stands is anyone going to be ordering when its just kind of assumed that the prices will have to come down?

I doubt they'll discount the options...and VAT is going back up again in January. Will the price go up again?

Are they that far off?

An R26, with optional LY paint, xenons and spare wheel was pushing the £22k mark back in late '06 IIRC?

So, at an average inflation increase alone, of circa 3%pa for the last 3 years, the same car would now cost you around £24k.

And, as Jon says, the pound is alot weaker today.

So, RS250 Cup with £2k's worth of options is £24k there or thereabouts.

Add a bit of clever 'price' marketing (going in high, big discounts to follow) and people will perceive they are getting a good deal - but in essence no better OR WORSE than back in 2006?

Just my tuppence.......

Good point the actualt retail prices were always high thats before a 20% slip in the exchange rate.

Editorial in EVO this month Lord Metcalfe was saying the price of cars is going up right accross the board.

Difficult to know what to do really as initial demand will dictate that most feared aspect of RS ownership.....the "D" word.

How much is LY paint on the 250? The sepc 250 I want is 26k which would be similar to my r26 spec. I paid 15.5k after discount. I doubt it will be anywhere near that?

I drove a 57 plate, although I couldn't push it as it was a sold car. The sales manager has an 09 one but on holiday. I'm going back next week for a full 2 hour test drive :) they start from 25k and looking at the options I wouldn't want too much more. As for deals they are running from factory order, I think I'm more likely to get free servicing or the like....certainly a very nice car.

I'm still not sold though, the R26 is still a great car but the dealer service and dash rattles are bloody annoying.....

Yeah but what I'm saying is that even with a good discount a similarly spec'd RS250 will still be a fair few grand more than a same spec 225/R26.

Even with £4k or even £5k knocked off from a broker you're still talking £20k. That's a fair difference from the bargains you could get on the 225/R26s.

I can't see a Renault dealership necessarily giving the same discount as a broker but even so still an expensive car by comparison to the old model.

If it sets a 8:min 20 time around the ring it will be a bargain.
As always, what other car can you get for that monex that will stay with it on the track etc.?
I know in Germany any VW etc will be 10 grand more expensive.
The Mazda is priced very well but I'm not sure if it's sporty enough ?

For what most drivers want the Mazda will be more than adequate at that price IMHO. Not many 'drive', they just 'motor'....

Just seen the price list for the new megane RS, We have had 3 RS cars since 2003 2 x clio 1 x R26, 2 of which were bought brand new. I hope jeremy reads this.

I have just had a quick look at the options prices & specced up a FF car with a cup pack & a couple of other option........................ its a cruel joke ! £25K

The car is nowhere in the league of the Audi S3 for quality or holding its value. What a Joke pricing it the same as the Focus RS ( which I bet will be in bigger demand & hold its money better) or near to the Audi S3 , Golf R, Scirroco R.

I am afraid to say that I will not hand over £25K for a 1387 KG car, where is the weight saving technology ?

I would very much doubt if this car is faster round the ring than a 2007 R26 with a stg 1 map.

Hello German cars.

Ive seen the new MPS for £18490 new, lot of car and ticks most boxes, its a shame as the rs200 I have now was a stepping stone to the rs250.

Just got to find a dealer who has an MPS as a demo to try. My local Bolton dealer got a white one in but sold it straight away.

Im like lots of people out there, not much spare cash at the min.
