Looks like Bernie will have to decide what to do. IMO should have never gone to Donington in the first place - it was a flawed decision based purely on money and not on who could actually deliver a decent F1 race.

it was a farce from the start.....and I live 20 mins away so I sorta hoped it would come to donny -it was all based on false promises and Bernie and his croanies fell for it..........let's see if he swallows his pride and asks Silverstone to host it..........we need a British GP ffs !

Real shame as I would have loved to see a GP at Donington, but after all the faffing I don't even think they deserve it anymore.

the only thing that he's good at swallowing is the sex pests cock! :rl: I love it how once again that another British event has been let down. Other countries and the FIA must be laughing their pants off at us! Wembly stadium, comes to mind, Heathrow Terminal, Olympics!...

Can't we get anything right! who the fecking hell thought that Donnington would hold a grand prix anyway? there's fook all there for starters. do they think we've got money to blow like the Arabs :banghead:

I hope they give Silverstone a multi year deal, I love the circuit. Only downside is the traffic getting in and out imo. We went to this years grand prix and the facilities are far better than the last time we saw a grand prix there (4 or 5 years ago).

Silverstone as got plans for a track mod and a new block of garages and pit facilities so hopefully it will go back there :)

yep, i like the way silverstone seem ready to hold them over a barrel to get a long-term contract out of it, the only problem being the FIA will have a point where they just say 'stuff britain' if they're too awkward.

Im pleased that Donnington isnt going to host the F1 now. My reason is that bikes are my biggest passion and i spend quite a bit of time track daying at Donnington. I did a few days at Monza last year and also at Silverstone and the F1 cars make a real mess off the braking areas. All said & done though i wouldnt want the uk to be unable to host the F1 so i think that all concearned should swallow there pride and Silverstone should be the circuit of choice.

If the Donnnnington deal falls apart, which looks very likely, I wonder what the future will be for the existing circuit.

This is my favourite UK race venue and with kippered F1 aspirations, in what form will it emerge?

Sometimes less is more.

What a superb circuit Donnnnnnnnington was, now completely rogered by the failed Corporate F1 dreamers. We all knew this was doomed.

Wots wrong with a smelly slash in the 1920 pee channel bogs followed by short stroll over to the pits, picking up a king size Mars Bar on the way with the short run down the pit lane and straight onto the circuit.

Keep the costs down, maintain the heritage and encourage cheap affordable racing for both participants and spectators.

Do we need another Rockingham, the antiseptic grey suited Audi drivers dream venue that is actually a characterless, lifeless and boring place to be.

It was always completely obvious Donnington would never see an F1 race. £100million was the figure they came up with for alterations wasnt it? I rekoned at the time thats how much they would need just to sort out the motorway junction.

I was a stupid idea from the start. Silverstone has already had its sole ripped out so F1 cars can parade round it once a year so why ruin another perfectly good circuit? Best Circuit related news in a long time.

I'm agreeing with Conley again here (euuuk;)) but Rockingham is a perfect example of why we dont need these health and safety crafted circuits. Rockingham is a brilliant place to drive, a very technical circuit etc but when you drive in there you do feel some of your life force being sucked away its so depressingly sparse. Birds dont even fly near it.

I think F1 needs the 'traditional' circuits along with the new modern ones. A lot of the newer ones seem to lack a bit of character which is something I would associate with Silverstone.

I am sure if Silverstone gets a long term contract they will spend some more cash on it - I can understand their reasoning for holding back - there are enough white elephants already in this country - Darlington FC stadium to name but one.

Jon Seal

Its F1 that causes the lack of Character though. Silverstone before our time would have had bags of it but the overdevelopment/creation of huge run off areas just removes spectators from the action even more and creates these vaccum like spaces. Compared to proper circuits like Cadwell and Croft Silverstone just feels like a failed architectural project. Is it really worth causing irreversable damage to a circuit just for the sake of one race meeting ?

The major side effect of "F1-ising" a circuit is that it also makes it just about useless for anything other than an F1 car. It will become too wide to even feel like a circuit so when Burnie gets bored and wants to move it again the owners are left with a track that nobody wants to use.

H&S has taken sooo much away from the spectators point of view. You are too far away from the action and there are too many barriers and fence's.

Bluestar
24-10-2009, 15:19:59
Yea, just like the rallying! that used to be the best, you were the action! Welsh stages of the rally and you couldn't see the corner, untill last millisecond and then everyone jumps! reminds me of tokyo drift!

I agree with u all about donnington, soon as i heard the f1 was going there i thought its not going to happen, for a start, theres no way the roads round donnington could cope with the sheer traffic caused by the event, any1 go to the world series by renault race day 2 years ago when it was at donnington, it was a joke, it took hours to get in then hours to get out , the roads would need a massive upgrade which they probs would not of done
As u can prods tell am still p****d off about that day!!

lets hope the BRDC and Ecclestone can come to an arrangement to keep it at Silverstone for te next few years. I swear ecclestone isn't british though, he seems intent on getting rid of the british grand prix even though F1 has a massive following here

The final nail in the Donnington coffin:

http://news.bbc.co.uk/sport1/hi/motorsport/formula_one/8332525.stm

Be interesting to see what happens next. Seems like the ball is in Silverstones court - will they / can they pay what Bernie wants. All very well for Mandelson to say we need the GP but the government won't help out.

What a joke - makes us look like a right bunch of idiots.

The poisoned dwarf was only ever messing with Donnington to exert pressure on the BRDC - it was never and could never happen. Its a good poker game to watch, I rather fancy Damon to win in these difficult times. It really is time old Bernie was put in a home with his old buddy Spanker.

'Silverstone need to go and buy a pen'

Bernie Ecclestone, when asked what Silverstone needs to do to secure the British GP

You guys are right though - quite how this guy is still in charge of F1 beats me.
