Formula One World Champion Jenson Button has been linked to a move to Mclaren for next season.
The British champion, who is currently with Brawn GP is yet to sign a contract with his team and is understood to be having talks with Mclaren after the Woking team failed to secure Kimi Raikkonen as their second driver.
Although Button appears keen to stay with Brawn, negotiations are still on going as to the salary the team are able to offer. Button took a pay cut last year from £10m down to £3m to help the team after it was bought out by Ross Brawn following Honda’s decision to withdraw from Formula One.
It is thought Brawn have offered Button around £8m. Mclaren, who currently pay Lewis Hamilton around £15m, would be able to offer Button a more substantial financial package.
Martin Whitmarsh, Mclaren’s Team Principle refused to comment on the speculation saying, ‘We’ve talked to a number of drivers. It wouldn’t be appropriate to say more than that. We’ll hire the two best drivers available as we always have.’
