: Haven't driven one... haven't seen one.. just ordered one.
TuftySi 01-01-2010, 17:08:18 Yes... this is a first for me.
I've ordered an RS250 'blind'... well based on reviews, comments and feedback anyway :)
So now that it's ordered (and due sometime in March hopefully) I now move into the 'have I made the right choice' and self-doubt period (and also the bit where I try and raise some money to pay for it!) :)
Maybe it's just me but during this period I start to look again at the other cars that I dismissed along the way and think 'yeah thats a nice car' again :bonkers:
Maybe it's a lack of self confidence... or maybe I'm being girly ... but I need the doubt to go away.... and thats where you guys come in :)
So (and apologies if this has been covered in other posts) - what do you guys think about these cars, that I looked at as a replacement to my Mk5 Golf GTI before I ordered the RS? Has anyone driven these and the RS250? or anyone with any opinion really :)
Scirocco 210 GT - I tested manual and DSG versions of this and thought it was a very nice car (and imo very nice styling) although not as exciting/different as I wanted it to be compared to my GTI. Almost went for the DSG but with leather and a few options it was just too much compared to the RS and with less power.
Scirocco R - Really wanted this car but just too expensive again and no discounts at the mo from what I could see. Really surprised non of the mags/journo's have done an RS250 vs R comparison yet (most compare the RS to the MK6 GTI).... seems like an obvious battle. Some have declared it car of the year for class but haven't compared the two despite reviewing the RS. Has anyone on here driven both?
Golf GTI Mk6 -Nicer inside than mine (although I prefer the exterior of the MK5). Tested one and thought mine was a better drive - so no chance (more money - less car).
Any thoughts? and any other cars that anyone else looked at / tested before settling on the RS250?
Cheers
Si :)
BlackRat250 01-01-2010, 17:15:14 Si, have you driven the R26 or any meg sport ??
woodsey 01-01-2010, 17:53:23 I ordered one from the group buy, I have had a few doubts with the economical climate the country has gone thru whether I should have waited, but I have had to meganes before and really really didnt want to get rid of the last one as it was a forced sale due to moving. So when I remember what m old megs were like all doubt disappears. I am still questioning my self about my choice of wheels as I think i like the19s now but wonder if its to late to change my order..

I've gone for 18's though the more I see the 19's the more I like them but I do feel the 18's will on our roads do the chassis more justice like like the variouds BMW's I've driven, my current BMW doesn't handle as good on the 19's as it does on thee 18's but boy it does look better

thanks for the info steve, how can i find the status out of my order just give me salesmen a call?? I still dont know the problem I have is that i dont really like the axl wheels If i could choose to have the keza wheels in anthro I would change to them but I like the 19s when i first see them the only thing I was worried about was the quality and finish as I had a lexus a while ago and there standard diamond cut wheels kept corroding and peeling and I was back and forth to lexus getting them echxanged under warranty quite a bit just didnt want to go thru that again,
TuftySi 01-01-2010, 19:01:44 Hi Dave - no I've never driven any RS. Now I feel silly :)
Micky 01-01-2010, 19:11:24 i think his point was gonna be, if u have, you will know youve made the right choice, if you havent, your eyes will be opened to a whole new world of hot hatch
denty 01-01-2010, 20:03:12 Hi Dave - no I've never driven any RS. Now I feel silly :)
Ur in for a treat then ;)
stevie1972 01-01-2010, 20:11:01 I ordered my R26 and had not driven one but I just knew I would love it and since I picked it up every time I drive it i love it even more.
V44VAA 01-01-2010, 20:11:32 Hi Dave - no I've never driven any RS. Now I feel silly :)
Did exactly the same with my 1st 182, you'll love it :)

I did exactly the same and ordered my R26 without even seeing one let alone drive one. Makes me :) :) :) :) :) every time I'm in it (except when the wifes driving  ).
BlackRat250 01-01-2010, 21:02:19 Right two things here. Woodsey, i loved the 19's, it was just the tyre prices that put me off !! Especially the contis that are on teh new megane you can't buy until feb !!!! So they are going to be a funny size, so cost more. The contis on it were designed for the megane. Can always get the 18's re sprayed ?
Si, trust me, you will not be disappointed mate. Renault have come a long long way, especially over the last 5 years. At the moment they are leading the way in hot hatches and are leaving the competition standing in like for like cars. The handling is second to none. With work i have a nice selection of hot hatch cars to litterally thrash the fook out of legally and none of them compare to the megane. I promise, it will be well worth the wait and you will not be disappointed. If anything, you'll be wondering why you bothered with any previous cars !!
woodsey 01-01-2010, 22:49:20 I know what you mean about getting them painted, that wouldnt be a problem jsut unsure if i like the actual look, done a bit of homework on the tyres and the ones that are made just for the meg 235/35/19 sport conti 5 I have managed to find for 180 each inc vat and delivery, expensive yes but i was quite pleased that i got a price that low to be honest as they are new out, i think they may be cheaper by the time i would get round to needing a set.

TuftySi 01-01-2010, 23:47:52 Thx for the responses... just chucked the Scirocco brochure in the bin :)
By the way... out of interest ... does anyone have an opinion on the Scirocco R and in comparison to the 250?
Cheers :)

Good lad, from looking at the Scirocco R its definately a nice car but having never driven the basic 2.0T couldnt comment on the drive.
Im sure you'll be happy with the 250 and id definately have the 250 over the R for a few reasons. Somethng about most VW's for me anyway seem a bit plain and anti-fun. Im positive the 250 will put a much bigger smile on your face anyway.
Micky 02-01-2010, 02:09:41 also remeber after pauls worked some magic your gonna be pushing near 300 donkeys, not something to turn ya nose up at
jaybyme 02-01-2010, 08:39:24 Wasn't the scirocco R in Top gear mag along with the Meg 250.
I know I read it somewhere, they were impressed with the meg and dissapointed with the R as it was just a slightly faster Scirocco and very expensive.
jaybyme 02-01-2010, 08:46:24 hasn't the R.S just got normal Contact 3's fitted ?
If they are specially made for a certain car they will have an extra model number.
I would sooner stick with 18"s and Ps2's
Just checked and everywhere says Contact 5, I just wonder what happened to contact 4 ??
strange !
TuftySi 02-01-2010, 10:44:13 Anyone got any pictures (or links to) of the Oyster Grey with the Keza wheels?
The Renault website 'colour chooser' makes the wheels look silver ... and they only have 'real' pics of the 19's... be good to see what the standard car looks like in Oyster grey :)
BlackRat250 02-01-2010, 12:33:39 Woodsey, that is a bloody good price. I can see the price going up though. Any sort of 19's i was getting prices ove £200 !
jaybyme 02-01-2010, 17:23:04 where have you seen Contact 5's for sale ?
woodsey 02-01-2010, 17:52:48 from a website will go thru my history now and post the address
