I was messing about after fitting the Scorpion system, I decided to give the interior a thorough clean. So out came the seats and rear boot well bits for hoovering and a wipe over with APC. I then thought I wonder what it sounds like, so took it for a spin  it sounded awesome, can hear all the road noises, brakes and then on full chat the exhaust sounds sexual :D

So the interior is now sat in the shed......I have weighed all the interior and guess how much???

34kgs :wtf: next time I go out, I'll feel comfort now should I forget to have a poo :verystupid:

So how can Renault have saved around 120kgs???

ive ran without all my rear interior for a while now, as you say the noise is awesome, you get the real jet rasp! but ive put it back in over the weekend as the interior just doesnt look good all bare in the back

now it looks like a car again

im not a spotter on the 26r but on the corsa i saved around 25kgs on the rear seats! 5kgs on misc objects.

there is around another 25 to be saved on the front seats, 25 from the air con removal and pollycarbonate rear windows save a few aswell!

if you look at aussies thread on his red astra and click the link it will show all his weight saving measures! ive only listed the substancial ones but when you combine them with the little things it soon adds up

No front fogs or headlamp washers, no rear wiper or motor, or fluid running all the way to the back of the car. OK, the fluid won't be much!

It all adds up...

One thing I noticed is the washer bottle is smaller :shiny[1]:

How'd you find that out? ;)

No jets, well when doing the intercooler I thought hmmm more room for brake ducts, NO even the smaller bottle won't allow them.

so theres some weight saved on no headlamp washer jets :D hence the smaller washer bottle :D

and the dash may be hard plastic (like the 197 cup) not the softer foamy stuff which weighs loads!! ...have you got vids of the exhaust yet paul :)

34kgs :wtf:

That is a lot!

I removed the wheel well liner which is pretty light but did not have the courage to take out everything else. May try it now ...

Get an R26R on the Atkins diet and you could easily get it down to a nice summer beach weight of about 1170 Kg.

Depends how serious you want to get, lost loads of weight out of the old car. But the sacrifice is use-ability as everyday transport.

Things like:

All interior carpet
All plastics
Door Cards
Rooflining
Stereo and wiring
Glove box/lower sections of dash that aren't needed
All brackets etc that are no longer needed
All sound proofing (thats not a fun job chiselling the tar of the shell!)

Thats all the free stuff - then you can start replacing things with lighter items.

For me though, I've been daft enough to do that once. Never again, not on a road car anyway.

Air con and battery are the big bingo wings on the R26R.

To be fair mate, 34kgs is quite a saving anyway and will make a difference when on the road. I use to lob the back seats out of my LCR on the odd occasion and it was noticable straight away (especially the noise like you say).

Just look at that plonkers who fork out for lightweight kit but miss the real obvious stuff.

Get yourself 2X20 Litre Jerry Cans for your track day and run just 15L in the cars tank rather than 60L and you instantly save yourself 33Kg in weight.

Top up after each session.

Agree entirely - people forget about fuel etc. Or they'll go to all these extremes then have a passenger in all day!

I know exactly what you mean. However I love showing (off) people what the car can do!

Nothing like kicking them out towards the end of the day and driving al fresco!

Ive ditched the spare wheel (3 stone iirc) and will remove the leather back seats next. They may weigh even more than 32 being leather?
With all this weight saving i may see 32 mpg!
