We met up this evening, always been friendly with young Mr. Lamb regardless of the fact that he purchased his car from Wests... but he got a blinder of a deal(group buy time) so you can't exactly blame him for that... he got his first drive of a 250 with me after he'd purchased the car at Wests as they didn't have a car at the time and I was happy to help as it was no skin of my nose and TBH why regardless of the circumstances would I say no. I was only too happy to help....... so it was interesting for Steve to be able to get back into my car after its done 1700 odd miles to see how my running in program had come on.
And for me it was also the first time I'd driven another 250, I've got several on order but they won't come into my dealership til May but some things really stood out for me. First being.......
The RenaultSport Monitor.... I'd never had a play with this in a car that was moving I'd only played about with it in a static car at my St.Albans dealership and what a difference. Going from snow setting(felt like the throttle was incased in custard to extreme mode where it was scaple sharp but also produced a more on/off throttle sensation) you could really see its worth spending £300 odd on this extra. Forget the G Meter and other things that it gives you the mere fact that you can alter the throttle to suit for me means that this alone has to be worth the money it costs as it changes the whole character of the car period. I'm actually surprised its not standard but if anyone wants to know whether they should buy it it gets a big thumbs up from me. Its a must on a 250
Cup Badges on the B Pillar. Steve's had these on mine didn't but mine wa one of the 1st cars off the line so a quick email/phone call will be happening on Wednesday
Steering.. Unless Steve tyres had a little to much pressure in them my steering feels a little heavier(Steve noticed this too) My pressures were checked yesterday afternoon and they are bang on. Cheked them just before logging on here to write this and again spot on as far as I can make out. But regardless of heavier/lighter turn the wheel nad you know your in something rather special
White Paintwork. Looks great but tar and other stuff welds itself onto the paintwork quite nicely as I discoverd when cleaning mine today(yes I clean my own demo)
Rear Exhaust Pipe Trim... Gets dirty quickly.. Steve's after 170 odd miles was nice'n'clean mine's a bit dirtier so a bit of metal polish may make an appearence tomorrow.
Fuel Computer the L/KM setup has returned on Steve's car to glorious MPG... I've known about a fix through my RTE. Mine will go in sometime this week for this to be addressed. But chaps the cars that are coming through if Steve's car anything to go by will not have this oversight as part of their spec...
A 1700 mile car v a nice new 160 mile car. Mines still got a little way to go before I declare that its 100% run in I believe 4-5k will see this job done good and proper but the difference in pull Steve immediatly noticed in mine. Mines more tractable from low revs say in 4th gear and spins up a little more eagerly you can really feel it pull stick it in to 5th and all you do is repeat the process though it delivers the urge a little differently, drop to 3rd and things happen just that little bit quicker...... but this will come to Steve's car 100% in time and mileage so it will be something that the pair of us has vowed to re vist to see what progress and a few extra miles does to the 2 cars.
Photo's of our little quick meet in a nice B&Q car park will follow in due course(PhotoShop isn't being very friendly at this moment). But it was a very interesting exercise I think for us both and hopefully a good read for you guys too
Thanks for reading
