Hello All,

I have had a tour round the forum and it's great to see the knowledge level, so I thought I'd join.
I am in the market for new car. Need some space for the family (currently have an Elise which is going). I've been looking at an RX-8 but saw the Renault 225's on car supermarket buyacar.co.uk with amazing discounts (would save over £10K vs the RX8) and have read varying 225 reviews on the web. I think the Megane, especially the 225, is a beautiful looking car but why are so many reviews that are saying, for example, the Golf GTi is a better buy - I personally would not touch a Golf.
The only experiance I have had of a Renault sportcar is testing Clio Sport 182..but I bought a Type-R instead as I thought it was a more exhilirating ride.

What do you reckon, chaps/chapesses?

Also a question from the other half...Is the 225 (5 door) a 4 or 5 seater?

Welcome along mate  Both the three and five door versions are full five seaters, proper seatbelts and headrests all across the back too.

If you have tiny kids you've got ISOFIX fastenings on the two outer rear seats and on the front passenger seat (you can deactivate the airbag for the passenger seat too)

Don't know why the reviews diss the Megane all the time, it's a great car. If you can make it up to Silverstone on Sunday for the Trax show I'm sure you can look around a few of ours and see what you think.

Thanks for the offer Cactusbob, going back to Kent this weekend. But I think I'm going to find a showroom so I can get a closer look at the 225 5 door

not sure you will like a 225 if you thought a CTR was a more thrilling ride than a 182 ? although a 225 is faster than a RX8 and more tunable.

welcome btw :D

If you do go the 225 route, all I'd recommend is the Cup pack at £500! That's what I've read in all the articles, and what I tested.

There are the following models:

225 (affectionatly known as the FF or Full fat) - 3 and 5 door
225 Cup - only in 3 door
225 F1 - only in 3 door

The differences are that the 225 Cup and F1 are more sports tuned, the FF is more of a GT based car. But, you can specify the Cup option pack on the FF and get the better handling too.

well if you want to have a good look round one and a test drive im in kent :D only in dartford but im thinking if you have a drive of mine it might put of one as mine is a we but loud  , only joking apart from the zorst noise the car is awesome,

agree with you on a golf, very boring,
my brother works for mazda and says the RX8 is ok but very juicy and the MPS 6 is a wallet killer,
the megane is very exclusive, not many on the road at all, has great looks and and is fun to drive,

also a 5 door 225 dosnt realy loose the apeal either, there are a few on here with 5 doors and they still look great,

question is with a family on the way do you wanf and standard chassis 225 or a cup chassis,

andy.
