: Where are you at with your finance, what car next?

Just before I start, I want to highlight the fact that I'm COMPLETELY satisfied with my 225 but I'm sure its not just me that picks up an autotrader/autoexpress/evo mag now and again to see whats also out there!

I've got another 2 1/2 years to pay my 225 off. I did take my finance out over 5 yrs but I have to pay 9k off before I can trade her in(horrible thing to discover when picking up your 225, dealers conveniently left it till then to advise me of the clause :x ). From what I've calculated, I'm not gonna make much on my 225 when I come to p/x but I didn't buy it for ANY sort of return.

I did fancy a scoob but their new models have erased the history that they've made by changing engines from flat-4's to straight 6's(no more grrrrrrrrrrrrr, chhhsss), shape looks softer which I guess is to appeal to a wider market.
I love the new Evo (10), but if the running cost are anything like the current models, I couldn't afford one.
I like the idea of a big engined turbo diesel cos they're poppin up in the performance charts not to mention they're torque attributes and cheap(ish) to run when you want economy.

Thoughts?

I've got 34 months left, didn't borrow a great deal to be honest. Put my old car and some of my own cash down against it and borrowed the rest. Nice to only be paying £153 per month at the moment. I am not in any hurry to change my car either. The Megane is just simply awesome, I've had loads of positive comments about the car and there aren't many of them around where I live which is an added bonus.

The Focus ST's are a dime a dozen now, and although I couldn't decide between the two when I was looking around, I am glad I went for the Meggy now.

Don't give the Imprezzas a lot of thought. A guy I work with has a new WRX and he says that a lot has changed and that they aren't quite the same as they used to be. We've been out for a bit of a spin and tbh my Megane has no problems giving him a run for his money.

As for next cars, who knows. I've always fancied an Evo, just love the idea of the power in a practical car...well a four door saloon :)

Scoob & EVO999 (as it will be in 2 years  ) insurance is too high as both group 20.

You should have lost more choice 2 years down the line, probably even a phase III meg. As renault said it will not be 4wd but will have more power, my guess is they are working on a hybrid

and a new focus, astra, civic, seat, golf.....

I'm already pondering the next car situation lol, a year in May we're paid up and part of the resoning I used with the Mrs to get a VX was that in 18 months time the VX will be worth more than our megane would have been (hopefully 12k against maybe 9k for the meg) It leaves us with a few more options:

Option 1 - Sell VX and pick up a nice phase 2 cupped meg circa about 12k (in 18 months)

Option 2 - Sell VX and get something totally different (M3, clio trophy, New S3 have all been on my shortlist)

Option 3 - Keep the VX indefinitley and get a new Hyundai of some kind(5 year free sevicing and warranty being the thinking behind that)

I'm favoring option 1 or 3 at the moment but really it will depend more on other factors like Kids, if either of us get a pay rise etc. I'm quite keen on the idea of not having any outstanding finance for a car at all as we've done that with our past two cars. Maybe another option would be keeping the VX and doing a bit of bangernomics for a while and picking up some cheaper daily drivers from the auctions. I know a couple of people that do this for their main cars and its surprising what you can get for 200 quid!

Think it would be an R32 (dependant on what the new one looks like in 2008) or an EVO what ever number it is when I change. The EVO with the extra bhp (FQ400 level) would just be awesome.

Cash not a problem......RS4 Convertible!!!!

I paid half for the Meg and did the rest on a personal loan so pay very minimal monthly payments out. Will go down the PCP or Finance plus balloon so if I get board I can just change!!!

Keep the VX Jon and get the Mrs one of these beasts to rag around in.
