: Question from OZ
OzSport 29-01-2006, 02:50:19 Hi guys, I am a newby to the forum & was hoping some of you knowledgeable guys could help me out? I am about to trade my Megane Dynamique LX-R on a 225 but am in a quandary. I was going to get a Cup 5dr but unfortunately in OZ they dont come with a sunroof which is something I just cant live without. I know it sounds weird but you gotta remember we have slightly better weather over here & just cant get enough of the whole double roof thing! The thing is I have now decided to go for the standard 225 5dr with the sunroof etc but I cant stand the wheels on the standard 225. They just seem so plain compared to the rest of the car. Basically I want to add the Cup wheels onto the standard 225 but cant seem to find anywhere OS that sells them. The local dealer has quoted me AUD$4k wich I think is a bit steep. My other option is to wait till the Cup comes out with a sunroof but that could take anywhere up to a year I am told? If anyone has any suggestions or links to Renaultsport aftermarket sights I would be very grateful. I read somewhere that you can get a Cup kit for the standard 225 over there, if so, how much is that & what does it include? Could it be shipped at a reasonable cost do you think? Also if anyone has seen a pic of a dk blue or black 225 with Cup rims that would be great to see also. I know its a lot of questions so thanks in advance for any replies. Its great to see a big Renaultsport community out there! It is slowly but surely growing in OZ. Cheers
Justin.
OZ,
I was in the same situation as you when i found out the cup was released. Ive got the full fat 225 but i got it like 3 weeks after it was released. Certainly here renault UK wont supply an after market cup pack.....ive asked the brand manager as i work for renault but its something about the warrenty.
On the note about getting the sunroof on the cup pack as far as i am aware they are incompatible options......i dont know if its because the cars more rigid??? so ive no idea when they are allowing a sunroof on the cup!
Thats all i can tell you
JamieMac 29-01-2006, 09:39:44 Hi matey and welcome and I am sure some of the lads/ladies on here will post up some good info for you, I think you can buy the Cup wheels from the dealer here for a damn site cheaper so it may be worth looking into shipping costs, Maybe post on the Webcodes Tech forum as I am sure he can get a price for you from our side but good luck and welcome again
Jamie
Topper225 29-01-2006, 09:54:27 The last time i got a price for the cup alloys it was £900 ish with vat ..That is why i asked Alex if he could get them any cheaper ..
JamieMac 29-01-2006, 09:56:26 Thats a load of money, you buy my wheels off me for half that :D
topper thats wheels and tyres.
I myself wanna put my current tyres on cup alloys.
I spent £500 on some Goodyear Eagle F1's which are only about half chewed through at the moment.....this is 8 months after getting them.
Onl problem i need to find out on is if the 225/40/18 tyre will fit ok on the 235/40/18 rim.
BlackRat250 29-01-2006, 10:01:58 Hi Ozsport, welcome to the site.
Could another alternative be buying a different set of after market alloys? As i think you'll either have to pay for the ones at Renault, or pay a large amount on getting some shipped to you. Id love the cup alloys on mine, but they're just too damn expensive over here as well.
Just another idea sprang to mind, could you get the standard ones resprayed?
JamieMac 29-01-2006, 10:05:32 or you could buy some from over here and pay me to carry them as hand luggage an the plane for an all inclusive 3 week holiday to Aus and I will also help you to get them put on

BlackRat250 29-01-2006, 10:06:33 they'd fit in your handbag
JamieMac 29-01-2006, 10:08:03 oooh ya bitch
BlackRat250 29-01-2006, 10:08:29 Soz, couldn't resist it
heh.......another stupid option is to get teh car shipped over here and fit them.....then ship it back. Not the cheapest option but you wont have to declare it at customs :P

No that was just for the alloys , i think they were around the 200 mark each then the vat on top ...
ok...ill ask but i thought they were about £100-120 each
JamieMac 29-01-2006, 10:33:02 Yeah they work out about £240 all in per wheel only, Supply only
Topper225 29-01-2006, 10:35:31 Yeah that sounds about right Jamie ..
Alex the 225 / 40/18 tyre will fit as Darryl DCP888 has them on his as he bought the cup alloys but could not afford the more expensive tyre at the time ...
JamieMac 29-01-2006, 10:36:56 I enquired as I broke one of my wheels, yes broke!! split it by driving over a pot hole
CHRISTOS 29-01-2006, 11:23:40 check out this link shows all the different wheels you can put on a 225.

aclark 29-01-2006, 14:36:25 G'day Ozsport.
http://meganesport.net/forum/viewtopic.php?t=402 - Here's what the Cup alloys look like with Black/Gold - cool eh?
Oh, and I think the reason that the Cup won't come with a sunroof might be because it was envisaged as more of a track version of the car, and sunroofs and tracks don't mix! They let all the stones from gravel traps in when you put it on its' lid! (I tested this in an Alfa Sprint and know it to be true!)
Get a Cup. It's got aircon. Anything else is overkill and adds weight.....
yup....they work out about £210 each and thats internally aswell.
Looks like im gonna keep my current wheels.
andy bassett 30-01-2006, 17:01:26 just get your standard ones painted blach, will still look good.
they are also doing the cup alloys in silver now.
so have
standard full fat 225 alloy in silver
cup alloys in that anthracite colout
cup alloys in polished black F1 model
and cup alloys in silver.
some to choose from now. just a shame they are all so dear.

Mate that is one nice looking car & exactly what I am after! I just dont know if I can live without a sunroof, I may just bite the bullet & get a Cup with an aftermarket sunroof which can be done pretty cheaply here. Cups here only come in grey & red/blood orange but they are now dropping the normal 225 so maybe we will get black Cups? What colour do they come in over there? Thanks too all for the replies anyhow, hopefully soon I can post as a true Renaultsport owner! PS I am looking into price of Cup rims, if I get a great price I will let everyone know!
aclark 31-01-2006, 21:12:42 Over here you can have the following colours on the Cup:
Capsicum Red - the colour of mine, which is standard. The rest are metallics and a cost option (£350 here)
Steel Grey
Arctic Blue
Black Gold - the colour in the other picture
Inferno
Moonlight Blue
There's loads of good Cup info here - www.renaultsport.co.uk/roadcars/meganecup/
Go and have a test drive in one and make sure you thrash the arse off it! Then you'll really see the attraction of the car! You can buy them from brokers for great deals here, so there's nothing quicker for the money (I don't think?!).
Enjoy!
denty225 02-02-2006, 00:24:18 They are doing new colours when the face lift comes out. Wait and see.
OzSport 20-04-2006, 13:31:30 Hi guys, just thought I'd say G'day & give an update. I ended up plumping for a 5dr Cup which I got in Techno Grey& sourced an aftermarket Webasto dual sunroof which is almost identical to the old LX-R. Thoughts so far.....bloody brilliant, love it more & more everyday & at just over 3000km she seems to be loosening up in all the right areas! God I love this car!
PS Cant see how you attach images here?? Anyhow here is a link with some pics on OZRS, mine is about 12 replies down, cheers lads!
