Just wondered how people are using their R26Rs, mine is a very lightly used (860 miles) garage queen.

I use mine everyday, should pass the 20k mark today actually. Not sure why you'd buy a car like this and not drive it ???

Sorry but I really dont get the point of this not driving it business. Granted I dont do a lot of miles in mine circa 6k a year but thats due to the fact i do 35k+ commuting. However the miles I do are so enjoyable.

The rsoc was the same with a load of frs' that were garage queens. Why? Just dont get it! Cars like these are made to be driven and enjoyed!

Just passed 11k. 15 months old and most of those miles have been done to and from Europe. Use it don't throw sugar at it.

Depends really if the guy works all the hours under the sun or has a family allocating his time, and is also a petrolhead at heart maybe he just doesnt get time to drive much but loves to get home and admire it.

If i won the lottery i know for a fact i wouldnt get chance to drive the amount of cars i would splash out on!

Just bought mine last Friday, took it to Donington on Sat but they were fully booked.

Just polished it this evening and it will get looked after extremely well but I have bought it predominantly to be used as a track car.

Cannot wait to see how it goes on track.

Plans for the new year are a brake upgrade and a spare set of wheels.

Just covered 12k.

some of the best cars in the world end up in garages.................

people that are able to do this normally are well off enough to run round in another car or perhaps own a company car and don't have time to use their toy too often

I know if I had the money I'd have a nice GT3 or GTR tucked away somewhere ;)

Yes if I was filfhty rich I would have a garage full of motors but why would you buy them to tuck them away somewhere!?

I assume most that own renaults have them as 1st or 2nd cars so arent in the filthy rich category or even if they are its a 2nd car why would you buy one to garage it / look at it??

Even if I was rich enough to buy a fleet my days would be spent trying to drive them all, I really dont see how you can buy a car that is design for driving enjoyment and not make time to drive the thing prefering to look at or polish it

Mines at around 5k miles now - it does spend most of its life in the garage but its deffo a trackday regular too.

TBH i'm far happier driving around the potholed, congested, speed camera infested, dodgy uninsured driver streets in my 4x4 and having a legal and safe trackday blast when I feel the urge.

Fair play to those who use theirs everyday. Would be absolutely no use to me as a daily driver!!

When I use it, I do drive it hard. However, I do like to leave it in the garage and keep it immaculate...

I bought mine 14 months ago and it's now on 10,500 miles.

I couldn't bring myself to use it daily. Way too special and I'd feel like I was ruining it.

Mine was my everyday commuter, Tesco shopping trolley, weekend trackday toy and sprint racer. Sold it with just a tad under 10k on the clock after 9months. Loved getting it dirty with hard use but totally pampered it when it came to getting it back to it's showroom glory (wasn't garaged).

However I totally see why some have no choice but to leave theirs tucked up till they have the time to enjoy it, as long as they do get regular use.

I see the point in tucking it up if its purely a track / weekend toy. What I dont see the point of is doing 500 miles a year in one, just dont get why you would part with that much money not to drive it

17 800 km within 13months, mind the .R stays for 95% of the year in the garage :)

mine has 22k on it but its there to be enjoyed. and i'd rather buy one with average miles which has been used daily than one with mega low miles thats only been tracked.
in saying that mine is a 2nd car as i dont want to ruin it :)

Mine is probably still at the silly low miles end of the spectrum; but it does come out every month at least for a decent run, a few track days and the odd longer journey. In between its garaged. Wish i could use it more, but i simply don't have the time. I'd be very suprised if a fair number of the ~150 odd cars in the UK aren't still under 2k miles - on this forum you tend to hear about the few that are being regulalrly used. But I'd guess a fair few were bought as the n'th car in a collection and don't really get much use at all. Just IMHO - and i could well be wrong!

Anyhow, how many miles does it take to run in the .R? Just wondering how long it will take me to get to that point...

I ran mine in for 700 miles, took me nearly a year! I agree that some people will have bought them to use occasionally and maybe as part of a collection. They will be very collectable in my opinion given the very limited numbers that sold.

I think they will depreciate just as quick as a normal R26 but then rest on that figure. Appreciate? Hmm not so sure. I personally believe most engines are broken in in the factory. Just keep an eye on em for the first few k. I change oil on mine every 3k so I get to see how the innards are that way.

NoirProfond
08-09-2010, 23:51:51
yeah - i can't see them appreciating; that's not what cars do (unless they are made in Woking...)

As to depreciation; even if it is worth only half what i paid for it, I can think of plenty of other sports cars that would not be materially more fun to run, that would have lost far more £ value over the same period. An M3, for example...

Same depreciation rate as a normal R26? I suspect that whilst the R26 are in much greater 'supply', this is offset by more demand as they are more a useable every-day car and so have a broader appeal. So maybe you're right? Only time will tell. Still makes me pleased to run a .R though :-)
