: New owner saying hello
ANDY400R 07-09-2010, 13:38:18 Hi guys, just purchased a 26r at the weekend and took it for a blast on Sunday on my favourite B road. WOW what can I say it has impressed me so much, its such a hoot to drive. I brought it without ever having seen one in the flesh let alone driven one but not at all dissapointed. I swear it covered my favourite road just as qiuckly as my 09 GTR did. Really looking forward to getting it on the track and hope to get a least one in before the winter. Will probally have lots of stupid questions over the next few weeks as I get to know the car so hope you dont mind answering. Its pearl white with red wheels, cage and titan zorst (Nos 10):yumyum:
Regards Andy.....
Corey 07-09-2010, 13:57:31 Welcome aboard :) Sounds like a beauty, pics, pics, pics please. Says a lot about the R if your comparing the tarmac covering ability with the GTR. That smile will just get broader mate, enjoy.
Oh did i mention pics? :)
ANDY400R 07-09-2010, 14:08:56 Thanks Corey, dont think I can post pics as a new member can I !
Rogan 07-09-2010, 14:41:06 i was the same when i got mine, the Megane just blows my previous cars away(s2000, vx220, cooper s) its just so much fun on the right road!
bluediamond 07-09-2010, 14:57:31 Welcome to the club Andy
You have Garys old car. Lovely looking motor in pearly white.
You are welcome to post pics mate. Either via Photobucket/flickr, or by attaching images onto your post.
Cheers

ANDY400R 07-09-2010, 18:32:52 Sorry guys I might be a bit thick when it comes to IT but it says I dont have permission to do attachments so unles I'm missing something I cant seem to load piccys.
Jespin 07-09-2010, 18:57:38 Yep you're missing something...... get them uploaded to Photobucket or similar, then just copy and paste the image links into your post and hey presto, loads of nice piccys.

Artic Monkey 07-09-2010, 23:06:29 It would be great to compare your GTR against the r26r on track but one of the cars warranty will be void once on the tarmac lol
Cracking choice of cars mind and plenty of happy miles ahead for you!
bluediamond 07-09-2010, 23:09:43 mmmmm that GTR is lovely :partyhard:
ANDY400R 07-09-2010, 23:25:18 I have only done one trackday in the GTR and it was absolutley awesome, catching and passing GT3 RS, Ford GT40, Porsche 911 TT and a pretty fast Jamsport Focus RS running 400BHP and slicks. But it is way too heavy a car to track regulary, with Tyres at £2000 a set and replacement discs and pads around £3000 not to mention a bit of a problem with tranny temps with a £600 fluids change if you exceed 120 degrees. ( easliy done if pushing hard) you can see why the 26r appeals to me. I reckon I can get about 6 trackdays next year for less than the cost of a set of GTR tyres.
bluediamond 07-09-2010, 23:35:06 Wow those are serious numbers mate :scared:
Atleast you had some fun in it thou :D The R is gonna be dirt cheap to track in comparison lol
Artic Monkey 07-09-2010, 23:35:57 Sounds very costly but hell alot of fun.
Andy where in Essex are you from?
fat controller 08-09-2010, 07:43:49 Image tags added for you ;)

Awesome motors by the way. Can see your logic behind a meg for track view are some serious running costs to track the gtr
Corey 08-09-2010, 07:55:22 Both cars are mint, those GTR running costs are mind boggling, almost the same price as a Renault dealer :)
gustavb 08-09-2010, 08:15:13 welcome with such a beauty!
conley 08-09-2010, 08:32:19 Great choice and the R26R is an excellent track car. There will be a wealth of feedback from some of the regulars on here.
Big stuff to consider will be brakes – particularly if you are seeking a bit of circuit endurance and 215 Bhp/Ton is only a cheap and reliable remap away (if it doesn’t already have it).
ANDY400R 08-09-2010, 10:24:54 Artic Monkey- I'm from Great Leighs just outside Chelmsford.
Conley- Car has already had a remap and dyno print out shows 258BHP, I dont think I will be doing much else as I really want to retain some reliabilty and pretty much like the car as is at the moment ( seem to have been here many times before but always end up modding further), brakes pretty much standard with Goodrich lines and castrol SRF fluid. There seems a few different options regarding which way to go on brake upgrades what would you reccomend?

Quick rundown as there are lots of options.
Rear discs are up to the job and expensive to mod anyway as they have integral bearings.
Front discs? Firstly the grooved OEM R26R front discs have a history of cracking. Often from a stress raiser point on the operating surface where the grooves are machined.
Cheap front disc options are the Brembo High Carbon solids, cheap and durable.
More expensive? Lots of choice with some front alloy bells on stock diameters that give a bit more endurance and unsprung mass. A good step up in capability. Some chaps have larger diameter front discs and offset the increased bias with a higher friction rear pad such as a Ferodo DS3000 (a bit of a serious choice). Possible overkill? Improved ducted cooling is also another option on an OEM size disc. Some threads about on that but it will need a fair bit of bespoke mod work.
Pads? Well dont know what you have in it but for more serious use consider front Pagid RS29’s or equivalent from Carbon Lorraine or other manufacturers. Rears work will with Ferodo DS2500s. Nice coefficient of about 0.45 and a good compromise. Obviously many options exist, up to an including some more extreme choices that need a bit of care with on road use.
Fluid? Bang some cheaper Dot 5.1 in or stick with your Castrol equivalent.
Braided lines. Not a fan myself until the basics are sorted but you already have them. So job done.
What suits you? Only you can tell as a driver with actual road/track usage. Short track stints, heavy braking but working within set limits? More endurance, more cooling, more racing orientated pads etc. Usual variables.
clarki 08-09-2010, 15:13:13 Nice cars Andy, welcome along - fellow nissan owner!!
TBH ive done a few trackdays now and despite having changed to DOT 5.1, I find the rest of the braking set up perfectly fine with stock parts. They take a few laps to warm up but after that seem to cope with as much abuse as I can throw at them for the rest of the day. Obviously taking time out to let them cool every so often.
I'd really like to go in an r which has "uprated" brakes to see if there really is any difference. Ferodos made no difference when i tried them on my evo and the pagids ive used before just squeek all the time, awefull.
Maybe I dont push as hard as others, or maybe they brake too much??!!
liquidf1 08-09-2010, 16:54:25 Welcome to try mine clarki :)
clarki 08-09-2010, 21:23:43 Why thank you mr liquidman.
Hopefully we can meet up one day soon.
rigster2 08-09-2010, 21:43:15 Just taken mine round Cadwell today, brakes were ok but I am sure the ABS was coming on into Mansfield. (dry)
Strange sensation, felt (to my arse) like brake fade but could feel the pedal doing its ABS thing.
I guess its a corner with a lot of load on the brakes (downhill) and with plenty of run off it does encourage hard use of em, but was still suprised at it.
Matt
Artic Monkey 08-09-2010, 22:19:25 Andy we live in the same area. Silver End is my headquarters lol.
If you need some ideas on brakes or performance or just a play with a fellow Renault sport let me know as your 5mins away.
Will be keeping an eye out for a white GTR or r26r so wave back at a Liquid Yellow meg with the same bonnet as your's! :detective:
Rocket 08-09-2010, 22:36:53 Welcome Andy, thats an impressive couple of motors to choose from! Nice purchase :)
Had a red KW GTR shot past me on Silverstone at the weekend, blisteringly quick, almost forgot to turn I was that much in awe! lol
