Does the 225 have VVT ...

Alex
31-01-2006, 20:56:27
nope i dont think so

Its a Vel-satis engine with a turbo stuck on it....then highly tuned.

Topper225

I thought that but in the Renault Brochure they say it has VVT ...

taken from the 225 press pack

An engine of generous output
This 2.0 16v turbocharged engine (F4Rt) develops
power of 165kW (225bhp) at 5,500rpm and maximum
torque of 300Nm (30.6 mkg) at 3,000rpm. To provide
great flexibility of operation, 90% of this maximum
torque is available between 2,000 and 6,000rpm..
The increases in power and torque were the result of
several changes and optimizations carried out on the
pistons, the crankshaft and the twin scroll type turbocharger. This latter benefits from a special turbine
and compressor to improve cylinder filling and reduce
response time. The fuel injectors are matched to the
greater airflow provided by the turbo. The engine is
equipped with a specially developed management
computer to optimize ease of operation.
A low-inertia twin-mass damping flywheel minimizes
excitation of the gearbox by the crankshaft.
This feature therefore improves acoustic performance
without penalizing pick-up response. The socalled
“wide face” cylinder block results in stiffer
coupling with the gearbox to the further benefit of
acoustic performance.

I was sat reading the Megane Sport Brochure in the Dealers when waiting for my car and it stated Engine 2.0 16v Turbo VVT ....Did not think it was but if they can't get it right in the brochure there is no hope ..

phil

I heard b4 that it was VVT but cant remember when or where
is the clio 182 VVT? surely its that engine plus 40bhp from the blower?

maybe webcode might know?
phil

Topper225
31-01-2006, 21:18:36
The 182 is definately VVT but i don't thiknk the 225 is ...

Alex
31-01-2006, 21:21:26
heheheh

well renault do 5 petrol engines on the megane......
1.4 VVT - 100 Bhp
1.6 VVT - 116 Bhp
2.0 VVT - 136 Bhp
2.0 turbo VVT - 165 Bhp
2.0T which we have - 222 Bhp

If that helps

phil
31-01-2006, 21:23:58
It has to be then
cos its only blowing around 40Bhp
so 182bhp(clio VVT) + 40bhp = 222bhp

mine said it did in the booklet wen i picked my new one out, im 99% sure the blue one did to,
almost all cars now have vvt on them

Topper225
31-01-2006, 21:35:22
Well i didn't think it had it cause it ain't got that kick like the 182 high up the rev range but i did read it with my own eyes ....

phil
31-01-2006, 21:41:17
When you say high up the revs what revs exactly
cos the engine does sound different higher up, it has more growl to it
maybe not as noticeable with the turbo

Topper225
31-01-2006, 21:45:32
My 182 used to have that kick at around 5000 rpm . Bubble will be able to clarify that though ...

phil
31-01-2006, 21:51:13
Will have to go for a blast tomorrow see what happens at 5krpm

Topper225
31-01-2006, 21:52:32
I can't feel it like i did in the 182 and my 172 before that ...

31-01-2006, 21:55:33
just because they have turbo`d the 2.0 frt doesnt mean its just a jumped up 182 engine, its more advanced and developed than just knockin a turbo onto it

phil

This is renno where talking about!
well the oil filter from a clio 1.8 16v and williams is the same so it can't have evolved too much

Alex
31-01-2006, 22:05:15
the turbo is pretty fluid on the 225.....open the windows and listen to the whistle from 2500 rpm.....i can vouch that nothing special happens at 5k rpm.

could get some old school turbo lag mapped in there :)

I agree but why put VVT in the Brochure ??

Exactly ....

Alex
31-01-2006, 22:18:44
hey i get no turbo lag if you hold it in 4th to redline @ about 110mph :P

CHRISTOS
31-01-2006, 22:49:21
Lol yeah i can hit 110 in fourth, still has some to go dont quite redline.

Ok looks like it does have vvt went through an old brochure heres the pic

JamieMac

Just read my brochure and on one of the pages it said P.T.O!

Does this cause any lag and if so can I get a bigger P.T.O or do I have to stick with the one I got

phil
01-02-2006, 11:47:28
That will be the Phase Transducer Oscillator
if you log onto ebay and spend £5 on one of them resistor mods
you should reduce the turbo lag by altering the resistance in the phase transducing oscillator, thus activating the flux capacitor
make sure you don't go over 88mph tho' or you'll end up in 1885!

I thought the same the engine out of the Clio 182 plus turbo, the stroke and bore sizes are the same, there seems to be loads of conflicting info from Renault, one brochure states VVT and the other none.

I also thought the Vel Satis engine was a 3.5 V6 as this has made its way in to the Nissan 350Z, would be interesting if the gearbox from the Z was in the Megane Sport?

JamieMac
01-02-2006, 16:52:35
Well it is a Nissan gearbox!!!

What does VVT mean?

phil
02-02-2006, 16:27:04
Variable Valve Timing

VVT allows the lift or duration and timing (or all) of the intake or exhaust valves (or both) to be changed while the engine is in operation.

VVT-i is based on the principle of maximising performance by matching the timing of the engineÂ’s air intake and exhaust to your driving situation - idling, acceleration, passing and cruising

Or simply acts as an 8V engine below 4krpm, and 16V engine above 4krpm to optimize power

VVT is wireless technology!
