Was in the car wash vaccuming the missus Clio 182.

Guy pulls up next to it in a Velsatis, bloody massive thing but looked interesting. I asked the guy what it was like to drive.

Nice bloke but went off on one about how quick it was and how it 'really flies'. Turns out it had a 3.0 or 3.5ltr diesel engine. I'd imagine for motorway driving it has loads of torque. He said it was a turbo but as far as I was aware Renault use DCI rather than TDI.

I though that sounded kinda interesting, so I checked it out. Apparently it does 0-60 in about 10 seconds.

Correct me if I'm wrong but thats not very fast. Strangely enough he didn't say anything about the 182 Cup I was stood next too. :wink: :wink:

Amusingly we have the 2 litre petrol engine (F4R) which they put into the vel-satis........Just tweaked a tad

I'm not saying its a bad car, in fact from the look of the inside it was a very nice, if not massive car. Apparently ride comfort is spot on too.

But it was the way he was informing me how quick it was when I've pulled in, in a Clio 182 and drive a Megane 225. Not really comparable but he seemed the type not to really open his ears to anything else.

Amused me anyway. :lol: :lol:

DCI and TDI are basically the same thing.

DCI= Diesel Common rail Injection

TDI= Turbo Direct Injection

its just a way of differentiating between the two. they both use common rails, both use turbos. im sure its a 3.0l V6 auto derv, which is a isuzu unit, 10.5sec 0-60, 180bhp!

just found this by the way!! next time you see him, show him it :lol:

In October 2004, while overtaking a lorry at 130 km/h (81 mph) under cruise control, an automatic 3.0 Diesel Vel Satis allegedly accelerated on its own to over 190 km/h (120 mph) on a section of the Autoroute A71 freeway (motorway) in central France, and remained at that speed for over an hour in spite of the drivers' alleged efforts to stop it. The police, alerted by a cell phone call from the driver, cleared the freeway ahead of the car and tracked it until it finally stopped near a toll booth. According to the driver, the incident happened due to a faulty cruise control system, in conjunction with the electronic card that replaces the conventional ignition key and makes it impossible to start or stop the engine without electronic intermediates.

funny you say that as renault conducted a investigation on it and found nothing wrong with anything on the car. they also tested other vel satissssss and found nothing wrong with them too. so could be 6 of 1 hand half a dozen of the other. :lol: :lol: :lol:

Cheers for that mate, I wasn't really sure!!! :) So that means its got effectively a 3.0ltre turbo diesel engine?? Surely with a chip that could push some serious power??? :?

Ugly motors in my opinion. Never hit it off so stopped production.

Thats quite something but due to the size of it, I can't think that it would be quick. A great cruiser though I'd imagine. :)
