Just ordered a refurbed 205 GTi 1.9 from LAD Motorsport in Morecambe. They pretty much mechanically re-build the donor 205 with new brakes, suspension, exhaust, uprated clutch, close ratio box, 160 bhp engine, sports front seats, refurbed alloys and new tyres :D Good for road and track use. It should be ready for collection at the end of January. I had an E reg 1.9 GTi for 12 years and really regret selling it so this should ease the pain a little

The F1 replaced the Midnight Blue FF and the Honda RVF400 has been sold so should be OK :)

I have a 91 Miami blue 309 gti a joy and lots of fun to drive. :D
My brother had a 205 which was a hell of a car to drive. 8)
You said the 205 has a 160 bhp engine which one is it cause a standard 1.9 8v engine which only pushes out 130 bhp but if it is has a 1.9 mi16 conversion which is about 160 bhp this engine can be prone for oil surge problems on cornering causing big problems with the bottom end.

This is the work they carry out to the standard 8v 1.9 "The engine is fully rebuilt using new pistons/liners, main and big end bearings, high output oil pump, up-rated clutch kit, the engine components are then balanced. The cylinder head is fully reworked and gas flowed and fitted with a new competition camshaft". It's not the MI16 conversion.

Did a bit of research and spoke to 2 previous customers via Pistonheads and didn't come away with a warm feeling :-( A guy at work then showed me a website that had an in-depth report on tuning the 1.9 8v pug engine and threw scorn on the mythical 160bhp scam:
http://www.pumaracing.co.uk/PUG2058V.htm
What really made my mind up was they wouldn't provide any information or stats on any of the engine work simply saying it was their 2000 spec fast road cam. The car may well have been delivered according to their description but decided it wasn't a risk I was prepared to take so cancelled today.
Popped over to Peugeot Ecosse http://www.ecosse-peugeot.co.uk/ which is 20mins up the road from me and had a look at their setup and was very impressed. They had a 1.9 that they shoe-horned a T16 engine into putting out 340bhp. They used it at shows etc and it could out accelerate a Lambo Gallardo :-) Think this is a vid of it:

Hope nobody has any "horror" stories here to ruin my day ???

Lad and their very optimistic power figures strike again...

I used to have a 1.6 gti, amazing fun.

No way a standard 1.9 8v will produce 160brake when rebuilt, they dont even reliably make 130 brake.

Mi16 conversion is popular for good reason.

Eccosse have a very good rep around the UK and Europe!

LAD were quoting transmission losses of 33% between flywheel and road so 120bhp at the road equated to the almost mythical 160bhp. I have since asked on a 205 forum and they say for a fwd car about 17% transmission loss, a big difference from 33% !!
LAD also have no facility to provide a rolling road printout and were simply going to show me the magical figure on a meter and have me to accept that as proof. Told them I wanted to cancel and suddenly I became a "Difficult Customer", what for asking for them to actually put something down in writing as a formal contract !!

Only just found this thread! I recently sold my miami blue 205 Mi16 that I'd had for 9 years and had been tuned by Ecosse. Sold it to a friend in Berwick who's taking care of it for me, that was a sad day but I know he's gone to a good home!! Can highly recommend Ecosse, Diane and Matt are brilliant and know everything there is to know! Only ever dealt with them when they had their pokey wee garage on the low road in Bo'ness!!

Uh oh... not LAD. I know so many people who have gone down the same route. Never will they or others go there again. Their power figures are over-rated. So many people have been done over by them.
