i thinks its just a common problem matey. theres not much that can be done about it i think. i'd take it to your nearest (good) renault dealer while its still in warranty.

as a basic rule if replacing one coil pack replace the lot. when the gf's megane had one go, i replaced it and within a week another had gone down. done all four and never had any problems after that.

not strictly true. you usually have have to replace two at a time if one has blown. i think its something like 1+4 and 2+3.

i got it done under warrenty and they only do one at a time!I dont even want to spend extra on a warrenty next time they are a waste because i have to do expensive services for them to fix what have been really cheap issues so far, its pretty much a 2 year contract to service with them!

mine started to judder if u get me an i mean proper hard like sum 1 was hitiin u up the arse (hello sailer lol) an then hittin u at the front a few times if u get me,
2nd time it went my revs would go straight 4 the limit just by touchin excelarator, was funny drivin that around town wen in went lol took it stright back to reno,
wat your sayin there could b it goin i think, mine does that sumtimes still though an is mostly fine, ud no if there was sumthin wrong though
any 1 else seem to misfire at them revs r is it just me and jonboy lol??

wen a coil pack goes its like driving in too high a gear all the time. If its misfireing then it mite be your spark plugs. just a guess there buddy

i think mine may have a problem with coils - juddery in low revs as though it could stall easily. has had intermittent difficulty starting and sometimes does not tick over but just stalls - an initial rev on startup usually prevents that.

at times when i dont rev it as soon as i start it up the revs may drop too low when idle and it stalls - difficult to start again unless i have foot to the floor on accelerator when pressing start button.

altho what u guys are describing here sounds a bit different? local garage has suggested coils (non-renault garage as out of renault warranty now). does this sound like it could be a similiar problem?

i find it hard to judge what my megane is supposed to be like as previous car was an old battered thing - so its helpful to hear ur "symptoms" lol

how do you know if it is misfireing?

also - (sorry for the barrage of Qs) whats the difference between symptoms of a Dephaser Pulley problem and coils prob? as the former has also been suggested on other forums?

you do have a lot of questions lol ok the coil thing is 1.4 and 1.6 16valves when they start to go they missfire under load normaly when warm and then stop working all together when the engine is missing it will shake sound odd and have no power. I dont think this is what is rong with your car as its a 2.0 (good work) the dephaser pully thing is 1.6 vvt they ratel on start up sounds like ya cam belt has fell of then cut out start it a second time and its fine the dephaser fitted to the 1.6 vvt is constant vvt so changes when it wants at any revs. the one fitted to your engine is the same as the clio sports they switch at around 5k and dont brake. From what you have said it sounds like the throtol body is carboned up so the gap that lets the air thro when the pedal is not pressed is smaller due to the carbon if you clean it out it should be fine and is a lot cheeper then coils and dephaser pullys.

wow there were some long sentences in there mate :D haha

yeah my symptoms dont sound quite the same do they? but i have my mechanic sorting it out now - i wont need to pay for the work im getting done as got a warranty that states it will cover my coils (will let u know if they do when heard back from them for sure tho!)

not heard about the carboning up of the throttle body before? wud that explain intermittent judderiness at low revs / startup?

Yes its not getting the air it needs and ticks over to low. Have done a few 2.0 meganes now.

there not to bad take the pipe off from the air filter unplug it and then unbolt it 4 10mm bolts. it should not cost much to get some one to do it tho.
