: Cheap little runabout, any suggestions?
dickie 01-03-2007, 18:32:34 My girlfriend had to sell her sptKA and is now after a cheap little run about, main priority is reliability, but would also like something relativley nice looking.
budget of around £1200-£1500
1996 probably oldest she would go for
no more than 80k on the clock
and probably 1.6 max engine size, due to insurance/tax etc.
I identified a nice Vauxhall tigra for her, but they have a lot of reliability issues.
Now looking at VW Polo's.
106 quiksilvers look nice, but a little out of the bugdet.
Any suggestions guys? Or if anyone knows someone selling something suitable, really appreciate it.
Revon 01-03-2007, 19:19:08 How about a Fiesta 1.25 16v?
cactusbob 01-03-2007, 19:22:23 Saxo? :)
dickie 01-03-2007, 19:37:29 Past 3 cars she's had have been ford's, she wants something different. But I just had a quick look, they are coming in quite cheap, I'll ask her.
Saxo! :thefinger:I wouldnt want her to drive around in a boy racer motor :D
Alex_172 01-03-2007, 20:42:11 Well from what I've seen you'd get a mint Mk1 Clio with low miles.
I paid £600 for a 1993 Clio with 69k on it. Its got central locking, power steering, electric windows, immobiliser, sunroof etc. The outside needs a bit of tidying up which if it was mint would make it worth about £900.
So for £1500 you'd get a belter!!
I'd rather have one over a 106/Saxo though, the pedals on those things are stupidly small haha.
andy-mcq 02-03-2007, 22:19:46 me an a m8 just got a corsa gsi with 117k on the clock 4 390
o yeah cheapo fukin fun lol
Alex_172 03-03-2007, 21:06:01 Its quite susprising what you can get for you money for under £1k!!!
If I could afford to insure one alongside the Megane I'd have gone for something like a BMW 535. lol
Jimbo 03-03-2007, 21:26:45 you can have a 172 cup for £5400 ;)
MrTurner 08-03-2007, 16:38:51 How about a nearly sensible car? The wife is in a similar position as ****ies.. Only we'd like it (sorry, she'd like it..) to have 5 doors and be dead cheap to run.
She thinks an astra, maybe even a diesel.. Other suggestions? Clio might just be big enough, but what are the diesel engines like?
dickie 08-03-2007, 20:36:09 picked this (http://cgi.ebay.co.uk/ws/eBayISAPI.dll?ViewItem&ih=017&sspagename=STRK%3AMEWA%3AIT&viewitem=&item=270093721314&rd=1&rd=1) little puppy up the other day, nice little runner, I'll get a service on her at the weekend.
