Just did a trip to Lewes, near Brighton. 130miles from Swindon. Took 2hrs20mins there leaving at 9am this morning, and 3hrs back leaving at 4.15pm (M25 on a Friday too)
Didn't tank it, so got very good MPG.........

.......225 owners don't look .......

.....49.4 MPG
can't believe it!! Little Meg did very well. I'm very pleased. This also means that if I take her on the Modball Rally in June (2500 miles) then should be able to do it on £200! Think it might be the tortoise and the hare in this event, as alot of others have Supras, Scobbys and the like, so whilest they refuel, I'll pass on by

i still can't even comprehend getting anywhere near 55, let alone 49 on a good run. My usual is about 40mpg!

Reset your dci comp when doing say 70mph, or whatever and see what it returns on a flat road. at 70mph in 6th I get 50-55mpg (2000rpm).

At 140 I get 22mpg (just under 4000rpm). 1.9Dci

what are the figures in a 225??

Although I am dubious about the ave. MPG figures the coputer returns, when poing up a hill, without giving it more throttle(speed drops), it still goes down.

When we went to Sheffield in the Scenic the other week we were getting 49-50mpg at 80-90mph (with a wobbly wheel)

Have to say diesels always impress me when it comes to economy.

Although, I did manage nearly 90mpg out of the missus Clio 182. Having said that, it was down a hill in 5th with my foot off the accelerator. It just kept rising and rising.

Apparently a modern petrol engine, use no fuel when the engine is slowly descelerating in gear. Coasting to a stop actually uses more fuel!?!?!

Anyway, yes, deisels spank the poo holes of 225 for economy, no doubt. :D :D

Like Garlic bread, its the future

I often get 600miles from a tank of derv :p & thats running a remap too

I was tempted by the smell of petrol again, but my daily drive to work is 70miles, so its 100% a no go area, unless I want to fork out an extra £40 on top of the £50ish it already costs me a week :(

But then again we would not have bought a 225 if we wanted MPG!

I have to say, I've never had my 225s consumption down below 20. It always hovers around the 23-25mpg round town and goes up to about 30ish on a run.

Im not sure about that, there is that thing in Auto Car this week about in a few years the Petrol will rise again due to super new efficient engines, like the TSI that VAG have brought out and the Stop Start That BMW are fitting to the one series.

Maybe, maybe not ??

Looking at some performance figures
Golf GTI MK5 v Leon FR 170 TDI (REMAPPED TO 213BHP/303LB)

Weights
Golf GTI MK5 1336kg
Leon FR 170 TDI 1331kg

0-60MPH
GTI -6.4SEC
FR - 7.2

0-100MPH
GTI -16.6SEC
FR - 19.4

40-80 in 4th Gear
