Just had my EVO mag delivered and they have an article on the Jap spec 4 dr Civic Type R - in Championship White I might add. It has 222bhp, hellical LSD, 320mm brembo brakes etc, looks the part. Interesting to note that Lichfield are importing them into the UK from £22,995 otr with 12 weeks for delivery.

EVO reckon it's what that soft Type R version we get needs and I wouldn't disagree. Makes you wonder about car companies with the UK being one of the biggest and most loyal Hot Hatch countries and we never seem to see the more hardcore Jap only versions, sort it out Honda :-)

It may be 222bhp and indeed it does look pretty tasty.

But for £23k I can think of different cars I'd buy!! lol

You spec up the Megane DCi 175 and the list price gets suprisingly close to the Honda. My mother-in-law has a 120d se that cost as much as that and a fairly middle of the road spec A3 is similar money. Doesn't sound to bad now considering the spec and performance and I quote "figures from Japan look very exciting with 0-60mph times around 5 seconds and a top speed of over 150mph" and "The new Civic Type-R is a full second faster around the famous Tsukuba circuit than the previous Integra Type-R and within a second of the NSXÂ’s lap record. Further testing at the longer high speed Suzuka circuit saw a 4 second improvement over the previous Integra Type-R"

Has to be the ultimate affordable performance/family car ??

When you put it like that I can definitely see the appeal of it and its surprising how quick that is even with the same bhp as the Megane.

But lets face it, a 5 door Meg R26 from a broker with plenty of options may cost you £16-17k, performance wise you can remap to 265bhp and you're still saving yourself £5k+.

Can't see that you'd get that Civic down in price due to it being imported specifically.

Only one slight flaw in your plan, there is no 5 door R26. Agree there probably isn't much scope for much of a discount but still a well built high spec family come track car that will beat Megane residuals hands down. Also think of the exclusivity of the thing, you dont see many 225/230's but you are more likely to see a Veyron than one of these, maybe not totally true :-)

I like that, much better exhaust arrangement than the hatch IMO.

As it happens I have seen a Veyron but not one of these, so you might be right there haha.

I didn't know you couldn't get a 5 door R26, I assumed it was the same as the 225.

Are you looking at the European designed one and not the JDM one?

No, is the 260bhp version not £60k + ?
I don't have my magazine to hand for a page number but it's a 4 door Jap version that Lichfield are going to import and put it through Type Approval so road going family racecar :-)
