: Type R's
paul_r26 20-05-2007, 16:35:04 I have a few friends with type r's, you know the ones, young daddies boys that go out racing cossies all weekend down southend!!
Now apparently my R26, which is on order, won't have a chace against a type r, which I disagreed with!!
Can anyone shed any light on the subject from your ownership experiences??
Thanks
Paul
sh33n 20-05-2007, 16:45:27 Which Type-R are you reffering to?
I've had both a UK EP3 CTR and a DC5 so could probably answer pretty well on the subject.
The EP3 seriously suffers from understeer, and really could do with an LSD.
paul_r26 20-05-2007, 16:54:51 Older shape (Door wedge) and new DC5
sh33n 20-05-2007, 17:24:59 That's the EP3 then.
It's a bit hard for me to compare right now, given that I don't have my R26 yet, however the EP3 does lack seriously without an LSD hence the reason I went for the R26 over the FN2.
Also you either love or hate V-TEC, I certainly loved it, it's addictive, but have opted for a Tub lump this time around as I want something less tiresome and has power available nicely across the rev range. I would also think the R26 would be better in acceleration, certainly in gear.
The DC5 was a superb car, and I was very very very very (you get the idea) tempted by another one, but I opted for the R26 (lets hope this is the right decision) I would image the DC5 would wipe the floor with a R26 on track tbh, they really are that good.
But I'm hoping the R26 will be the better car all around for daily use, the DC5 attracted a LOT of attention, which is both good and bad.
To sum up, my vague idea of speed (circuit, twistys, etc) would be:
1. DC5
2. R26
3. EP3
In ~4 weeks I'll be able to give you a much better comparison.
paul_r26 20-05-2007, 17:43:46 Cheers
Annihilation 20-05-2007, 21:04:48 I had a EP3 for 3 years, and it was such a fun drive. But it had its issues, certainly ones that the R26 doesnt have, I think of the R26 as a more mature drive, but not much more mature that you are bored.
It puts the power down better, and has more power, but most of all it handles like the ep3 should of.
If the Jap version was brought here, I wouldnt be on this forum, but I always thought the EP3 lacked what it needed; the extra power and the LSD.
Dont get me wrong I loved the EP3, and would love to drive one again, but the R26 makes using that power so much nicer, and better.
On the DC5 vs EP3 vs R26 debate, I saw an EP3 compete well with a DC5 (jap versions obv) so I would say they would all be on par imho.

This was / is my thinking, hopefully I'll be very pleased when mine arrives :go:

If we are talking just outright speed and handaling then then EP3 is far below the DC5 imo :)
denty 20-05-2007, 22:41:10 on paper the R26 is faster
Annihilation 21-05-2007, 08:39:05 I think you are most likely comparing the UK EP3 vs the DC5(jap only)? If not then my appolagies, but from all of the videos of the japs going mad with them they both were on par, interestingly the spoon demo of all 3 cars: ep3, dc5 and the older ek showed the ep3 to win the race, dc5 in second and ofc the ek in last.
I think its all down to preference though.
MrTurner 21-05-2007, 10:34:13 Lets be honest - the stats on paper do not show that the Megane would not have a chance. In real world terms, that will be true too.
Whenever I've seen a CTR out on the road they don't want to play. Why's that then..
Annihilation 21-05-2007, 10:51:41 cos the average age is 67? ;p or something silly :D
Liquid R 21-05-2007, 12:47:12 Took my R26 round Goodwood recently it was much faster than my old CTR which I loved on track and we were also keeping up and catching some Caterham R's, so I guess its probably as quick as an Integra DC5.

This is true.
I was comparing the UKEP3 to the DC5, I have never had or driven a JDM EP3, which I assume is vastly similar to the DC5.
The UKEP3 is not on par with the DC5, I know that for sure :)
Annihilation 21-05-2007, 14:16:23 Yeh, completely agree.
DEEJAY 225 RS 21-05-2007, 23:02:55 i do a lot of work for honda and get to drive quite a few type-r,s
and i can honestly say they are no match for the megane, the power delivery of the type r is way to aggressive and just wheel spins through corners, and they are even worse for getting power down from a standing start,if they had a lsd then things would be intresting

Not being funny here, but a well driven Caterham R on semi/slicks is almost as quick as a Radical on track--slightly different to a Megane?
