197 just outpaced the Corsa VXR on 5th Gear. Gotta say the Corsa looked cheap and tacky after seeing the 197. Tiff said he could drive the Clio fast all day long but not so in the VXR. It's handling wasn't on a par with the 197 and that wasn't even the R27 so the forthcoming Cup chassis option will only put more distance between the 2.

I went and saw the Corsa VXR the week end there not that nice, to me there a typical sporty girly car.

I used to be weary of the TDI 150s when I had the 182 - not so much now. Great engine though imo.

well yea it would have been pretty much the same speed i guess. only now run in im more likely at 230hp.
must add we both turned off onto some b roads going home and we both live in the same place/area i absolutley toasted it, and i know he was gunning it like a mad man, i could carry big speed round corners and brake very late etc.. didnt stand a chance with that heavy diesel engine at the front.
like the VRS fabia, my bros had about 185bhp and 320lbft jabba sport, fmic, cupra intake etc.. and it was quick in a straight line but my 172cup kicked its arse still, he rekons his new shape astra sri is better handling than the VRS i dont know many vag diesels that handle well its not really what there about.

I drove the Corsa the other weekend, been waiting for ages for it to arrive, was seriously considering it....
... however just a 1 hour drive put me right off. It's not actually that much different to the run of the mill 1.4 corsa, just with a few blingy bits thrown in. Seats were fab, ride was way to harsh on the 18" rims, the black stuff on the console was just wrong - car was just three days old and it was covered in marks already... and the engine (okay it was probably a bit tight with only 150 miles) didn't actually feel that powerful. Very uninspiring.
Was expecting it to be better than the 197 what with all the hype, but the clio beats it hands down, chassis, brakes, interior, all but the gearbox ratios in fact!
