      Default 172 Clio Turbo

      Hello all.

      I own a poorly clio turbo.

      I have just cleaned the TDC sensor and it is now picking up better but still slightly hesitant when hitting WOT from low revs.

      It is a KTEC converted car with a LPT Ktec map.

      I am chuffing smoke out and have no cat , also no tax or test.

      Does anyone know a friendly MOT tester in Doncaster ? Also anyone have CLIP that I can borrow so I can see if it has thrown any faults ?

      You have no decat meaning you have a cat or you have a decat ?

      Few issues ,

      Hesitation. Mash the thottle and get nothing , then go.
      Turbo smoking - the turbo has just started smoking. Might be due to it starting stopping all the time. Needs some miles but no tax or test so kinda stuck !
      There is no cat fitted to the car so I dont think emissions would be great.

      Having a de-cat won't make the car smoke...

      More background information is needed, when did the fault develop? How long has the car been running the LPT kit? Has it always smoked?

      It's ok plugging Clip in to check fault codes but you need to be able to read the live data for any proper diagnosis.

      Also the colour of the smoke is important. Make sure it's warmed up first.
      Blue: oil bypass either rings or oil in the intake.
      Black sooty: overfueling & probably a sensor or afm.
      White: oil bypass in the exhaust side of the turbo or possibly head gasket allowing water into the combustion chamber. This is usually accompanied by water loss & condensation from the exhaust.

      Aware that the decat wont make the car smoke. I believe the turbo oil seal needs replacing.

      Car been running on the LPT for a few years.

      Just started smoking ...

      If just the turbo seals were failing why are noticing hesitation? Doesn't add up..
      Has the car been stood a while?
      What colour is the smoke? Does it smoke all the time? Only when hot? Only with boost? etc., etc.
