General opinion is the drive is less involving than before, and it's the gearbox that let's it down. It's not fast enough and doesn't pre-select the correct gear.

Chassis sounds like it's good though, seems to have a quite mobile rear similar to the Megane.

I'm looking forward to reading a few more in-depth reviews about it when people have had more time with it.

Gearbox will go down a lot better with the public than the motoring press I'm sure. I think these will fly out of the showroom. Perfect car for the playstation generation that are just coming to the age where they can afford the PCP. Perfectly judged car by Renault IMO.

Appealing to a wider audience. VAG and Ford have done it for years, you can't blame Renault for trying, it's a hard job selling cars these days.

I like it though, should be as easy to live with as the Megane - possibly more so due to the extra doors, but should still be a sharp steer and it certainly won't hang about.

On another note, for those taking numbers, the DIG-T 1.6 Nissan Jukes are already getting tuned to around 230 bhp - so I bet these will be about the same.

Have you driven it? It's hard to say it's a "nicer" gearbox if you haven't driven both cars already. You could say, you'd prefer a manual, but without driving both you can't say which is nicer!

And cars have gone up in price a lot since the 172 was new. I paid 12.5k for a Fiesta ST in 2008, and that was a good deal at the time. List price was 15k if I recall correctly.

Saw one in the dealers last week when Bumblebee was in for a service, looks to be well put together and I think it will be a huge success for Renault. Would like to test drive the RS when its released to see how the gearbox performs as I believe the next generation Megane will also go down the same route.
Being an old school Hot Hatch addict I'm just struggling to come to terms with the two extra doors!
