Well pissed off opening my sportauto mag today.
Last month they said the MRS3 was going to tested, and what do we have,a Golf R !!
Any way some figures, which will be very disappointing to Golf fans.
0-100 km/h = 6.0
0-160 km/h = 13.9
0-200 km/h = 24.4
Nordschleife 8:34 !!
thats's only 4 secs quicker than the original meg trophy, and 8 secs slower than a FRS.
Hockenheimring = 1:17.9, so 1.3 secs slower than the last MRS3 tested.
it weighed fuelled at 1531 kg
wet lap 1:34.7, (Trophy 1.31.0)
Tyres fitted 235-35-19 Dunlop SP maxx GT
Seems that the ESP stops the car from being faster on the track.
All in all it just replaces the R32, so your better off buying the Gti and getting it tuned
if you want to spend 40k on a car buy a ferrari 360 modena, that golf R is ridiculous. and LOL is slower than the megane. any wonder where sportauto will test the MRS3 at the ring?
A 6.0 second 0-62 in a 4wd car with 265bhp is very disappointing.
I'm really surprised by these results. Everything I've read about this car so far suggested it'd be really quick. Probably a bit heavier than it should be. But it's barely able to compete with cars that were built 5 years ago! I know there's co2 emissions which constrain manufacturers more nowadays but this does not bode well.
It'll be interesting to see what the tuning capabilities are now, what with it being turbo.
A guy at work bought his mrs one and reckons with a stage 1 apr map they hit sixty in just over 4 seconds ! He reckons there's people on the R forum claiming these figures, don't know how true they are though over £30k for a golf ?!?!?!
The dsg ones can get of the line quickly, but they would have to be highly tuned to get into the low 4's.
The price of the one tested in Sportauto, works out at 38250.00 pounds !!!, and it's not fully loaded.

There's your problem..
I take it this was a manual car Jay? You'd have to be a complete retard not to do a sub 6 sec run in a DSG .:R. A Stage 1 DSG .:R will do high 4's 0-60, seen it done..
yes Vtec, manual, conditions were good at 22c, and track temp 27c
I'm sure many Golf R's will not stay standard, but then again many may opt for the Audi RS3, and tune it to 420-500ps.
I dont understand the Golf R at all. The price makes the RS250 and FRS pricing look acceptable. 4WD is a dead duck anyway now whats the point when Ford, Renault and Vauxhall all have FWD offerings that toast the R and R32? Quality FWD is the future for mass production "affordable" performance motoring.
exactly. most 4WD owners say, your drive is safe with 4WD, especially in wet. but the golf R proves us wrong. it was 3,6 sec slower on a wet test track than the 2005 megane trophy (not mentioning an R26 or even R26.R). the time would even drop below a corsa OPC if they wouldn't have changed the spec of the tires before.
