I sold my Megane today, one of many who seem to be getting rid for some reason.

I only got 10,300 for it through a private sale but was desparate to get rid. The 12-14k which owners think they can get for them is simply a dream, huge discounts and facelifted model have effectively killed the value of our cars and because of that renault will never be receiving anymore of my money.

I hope you all enjoy life with your Megane's, I'll keep popping on especially to keep up to tabs with how much you've managed to make them even faster as there has been some great work already.

Sunday I hopefully pick up my 350z which I can't wait for.

Anyway, all the best. Keep up the good work on the site.

Good choice on your next car!!

Just wondered, what was the age/mileage of the Megane you just sold?

Very cheap, its just been the last few months where they've crashed.

Tomcat could only get 11,500 for a fully loaded one the other week and the ones on ebay aren't selling either. The Glass guide (which the stealers use) had the value of mine in the 10-11k bracket, it needed 4 new tyres and a new tyre sensor so I got slightly less than I expected, but still a shocking resididual for an 18 month old car.

That is a massive drop in price, especially if you pay the full Renault price!!

Nearly 50% depreciation in under 2 years!

My and I suspect many others thoughts go along with Mark.
I paid £15400 for one of the last Trophys in december 05 which I thought was cheap..
In the end had to sell it through my brother who,s a trader cos I had no intrest other than dreamers..
Any one who pays full price for a renault must be off there trolley beacause of the resale values.
A while ago someone had a thread going about the fact that trophys were overpriced and not a limited edition..
I suspected a wanna be trophy owner who was driving a normal 225...
(or maybe a Tarted up 225)
But his views were realistic..
Only worry is tho that normal ones are going to be worth even less..
Any way like Mark I will never be owning a Renualt again...
I,ve gone German 350bhp MERC C32 and feel quite comfortable on the speed limiter at 155 whilst smoking my pipe!!!

all performance cars values drop like a stone, the 225 is bad but TBH my 172 was the same, I bought that for 12.5k and sold it for 8k after 2 years, If I'dve left it another 6 months (when the 182 came out) I would have been lucky to get 6.5k for it

The problem with renaults in general and whats particularly hit 225s is that they are too quick to bring out newer models. The gap between the 172 and 182 was about 3 years wheras the 225 had only 18 months before the trophy came out so residuals have been affected earlier than they really should. As for trophy's been overpriced I think in real terms thats probably true as they were restricted to uk dealers and so higher prices had to be paid. Its unfortunate if you have a trophy that you can just order a cupped 225 now at import prices but thats what your always going to get with renault.

Bad residuals dont just affect renaults though, bentley coninental GTs are impossible to sell now the new ones come out, try taking a 40 grand hit in two years! Unfortunate fact of life for any performance car owner.

Exactly john,

My mate has lost thousands on selling his cars,

Porsche 911 he lost 34 k on

Porsche Carrera lost 38k on

the list goes on..

Performance cars lose money, just a fact of life.

If you have enough to get a lamborghini Gallardo, then they hold their money well.
